2. He was a Confederate soldier during the War Between the States. He served in Company I, 4th Texas Cavalry, Sibley's Brigade, from 1861 until the
end of the war. After the War Between the States, he moved from Angelina County, Texas, to Brown County, Texas, where he remained until about 1877
when he moved to Callahan County, Texas, and resided at Belle Plain and Tecumseh until about 1885/86. He moved to Big Spring, Texas, where the
worked for the T and P Railway Company until his death.

4. He served four years in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States. He was with Greers Regiment in Arizona and New Mexico, and
later, he was in the Louisiana campaign. When he died, he was buried dressed in his Confederate uniform.

6. He was killed on Saturday May 19, 1866, in a gun battle between former Jayhawks and a group of Unionist. The "Jayhawks" were the Home Guard
Patrol that were formed as a security unit just before and during the War Between the States. John Darby Windham, father of Jesse Eli Windham, was
the leader of the Jayhawkers during the War Between the States. As the leader of the Jayhawks, John Darby Windham made some enemies in
Angelina County, Texas. Jesse Eli Windham was not a Jayhawker but had just returned from fighting in the War Between the States as a Confederate
soldier.
