Mechanism of action
This drug inhibits the enzyme (squalene epoxidase) that is required
for sterol synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Terbinafine undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism in the
liver. Because of its inhibition of hepatic P450 enzymes, numerous
drug interactions are possible.
Clinical use
Terbinafine has a spectrum of action similar to that of griseofulvin
and is used to treat nail fungus.
Adverse effects
Terbinafine may cause patients to temporarily lose their sense
of taste.
