Estimate the current Philippine population, and to predict its growth in the future. Students are
then shown this problem:
Using National Statistics Office (NSO) data, the population of the Philippines and the
corresponding growth rates for the last century are given in the table below.

2.04 percent. This means that by 2011, we expect that 2.04 percent of 88.57 million will be
added to the population for a total of 90.67 million Filipinos that year.
The annual growth rate changes through time, thus the annual growth rate for the years 2011 to
2015 may no longer be 2.04 percent.
