Fan drive
Electrical drive power is converted into hydraulic pressure rise and motion in fans.
At pressure ratios up to p2/p1=1.3, fans are used. Above this level, compressors
are used. Radial fans draw in air in an axial direction and circulate it in a radial
direction. Axial fans, on the other hand, draw in and circulate air in an axial direction.
Semi-radial and semi-axial fans are also available.
The frequency inverter climate variants define the specific drive characteristics for
this type of application.

The required power is calculated as follows:

P=

V p
1000

(1)

Safety reserves Psafety:

On directly driven fans

5 - 10%

On belt drives

10 - 25%

The fan data sheet will usually contain information about to the recommended safety
reserve.

Psafety
PS = P 1 +
100

(2)

You must now select the fan. The required process power (output-side drive) is
calculated based on the fan efficiency:

P2 =

P
1

(3)

The required process speed can be derived from the fan data. This then enables the
required process torque to be calculated.
