OUTBREAK

SYNOPSIS
My radio drama is about 4 teenagers who are all close
friends. They live in London and deadly virus outbreaks in
surrey and spreads throughout the country. The death toll is
unknown as more and more people are dying vastly. The 4
friends plan leave the country and get to a safe zone.

FORMAT
My radio drama is split into 4 episodes making it a drama
series.

Contemporary melodrama
My radio drama fits into this format because its a four part
drama ending the first episode on a cliff-hanger. My drama
series do this at the end of each episode until the finale to
make the viewers watch the next episode to find out what
happens.

DRAMATIC CONFLICTS AND

RESOLUTIONS.
There are no resolutions for this episode as it ends on a cliffhanger, only conflicts occur. The conflicts that happen are
the outbreak of the virus and how the characters deal with it
and what how they make a plan to leave the country.

NARRATIVE AND PLOT

The narrative of my radio drama is non linear.
My story starts half way through the second episode then it
goes back 5 days when the story actually starts in the first
episode.

HOW IS IT APPROPRIATE TO MY GENRE

 My drama will be aired on Wednesday nights at 10:00.

This
is an appropriate time slot because most dramas are aired
midweek and its post watershed as my drama will have
strong language and violence.

CHARACTER PROFILES
HENRY
Character biography Henry.
Henry is 19 and is having a gap year.
He is best friends with the other characters (Calum, Becky and Simon) since they all attended
the same private junior school but he is the only one of the four who went to a private senior
school too.

Henry hated his senior school and desperately wanted to join his friends at the local
comprehensive but his dad was promoted at work and both his parents had different ideas for
him. Henry kept his strong friendships with his best mates even though his parents wanted him
to experience the best in life and to do all the activities that his schoolmates did. His best
mates who always referred to him as posh boy constantly teased Henry but he took it from
them as he was only ever really happy in their company, he did refer to them all as plebs just
to get his own back though. Henry could be a bit pompous but so would you be if youd had to
live with an overbearing, social climbing mother and a workaholic dad. Henry felt as though he
had disappointed his parents as, no matter how much they had spent on his education he was
only any good at sports, art and drama! He could do anything practical but he knew his dad was
disappointed that he would not follow him into the world of Insurance.

CALUM
Character biography Calum
Age 19
Calum is hard his dad left home when he was 10 and left his mum to bring up three
children. No one in Calums family missed his Dad when he went as he used to hit them
all including their Mother and eventually his alcoholism resulted in him loosing his job
having a breakdown and leaving home to be with his rich girlfriend. Calum had to leave
his private school early and suffered at the hands of the boys at his new school so he
started to fight back and soon became the king of the playground. Calum sees himself
as the man of the family and he fiercely protects his brother, sister and of course, his
mum who he idolises but never really talks about his feelings. Calum teases Henry the
most even though he likes and looks after him but he resents his lifestyle, he knows that
all is not happy at Henrys home but he has money and that is what Calum craves.
Calum works at a builders merchants, his mums boyfriend got him the job when he left
school and he hasnt looked back, hes the youngest manager of the stores that theyve
ever had. Calum can get you anything hes a go to guy and recreational drugs are his
specialty. Calum fancies Becky but trys not to show it. Everyone knows but no one
challenges him in case he punches them.

BECKY
Character biography Becky
Becky is also 19 shes tall, slim with long true auburn hair that always looks amazing no
matter what the weather. She never wears make-up, thats for girls and she doesnt
need to. Becky is a straight A student, theres no subject that she wasnt top of her
class in at school and shes won a sports scholarship to university, she works part time in
a pub, has run the London Marathon and shes played hockey for the county. Beckys
mum died when she was only 10. As the eldest of three children she looked after her
through the devastating chemotherapy while her dad worked and worked and pretended
his wife would make it. Beckys mums death coincided with Calum leaving school, they
had been inseparable and suddenly Becky felt more alone than she could have ever
imagined. Becky and Calums ambition is to win the Red Bull Challenge race and they
are always making new prototype vehicles, most of which are really good. In their spare
time the four of them used to go to the top of the local hill and film Becky and Calum
racing to the bottom in their latest Red Bull effort. This is now their thing to do when
theyre all back from Uni but now its accompanied by alcohol and dope which Becky
loves just a bit too much. Becky loves Calum but she wont allow herself to let go and
love anyone so they live in deadlock.

SIMON
Character biography Simon
Age: 19
Simon is the most good-looking, stylish person you could imagine. Even at junior
school he had a massive Afro and managed to bring style to wearing the worst
uniform you could imagine. Simons parents are schoolteachers and they adopted
him as a tiny baby as they couldnt have children naturally, soon after Simon had
settled into his new life his mum fell pregnant naturally with twins and Simon
adores them. Hes a kind, considerate deep thinking communicator with not a
single enemy in the world. Simon was diagnosed with a form of autism very early
in life and this manifests itself by him being quite OCD and stubborn, he will not
rush as it makes him panic and he can draw any building to scale. He is a
tattooist and his work is legendary, people come form far and wide to get a tattoo
from him. He was offered a scholarship from the Slade School of Art but turned it
down as the thought of the routine made him panic. He could be a wealthy young
man by now through his tattooing skills but hes just not interested in money. He
also loves Becky and tells her often too often. He would do anything for his
friends.

My target audience is for a mature age (18+) because there
will be some disturbing scenes and offensive language and
violence.
