1. The olive branches on the United Nations flag symbolizes peace. The world map
depicts the U.Ns concern in achieving peace and security.
2. There are 193 active members in the United Nations today.
3. When the United Nations assembly meets they discuss key issues that are going on in
the world.
4. The General assembly vote does in fact count. It is counted on by a two thirds vote
based on those present.
5. The United Nations headquarters has a few unique features such as all of the
representing countries flags in the front of the building. Also a unique flag that
represents the United Nations itself
6. The United Nations has a few main goals. One of them is to keep the peace
throughout the world. Another main goal of the United Nations is to help prevent
humanitarian conflict.
7. There are some possible conflicts that would exist based on the United Nations
principals. For example one of those conflicts could be that another country doesnt
agree with something that the United Nations is trying to do.
8. The League of Nations was an international organization based in Geneva,
Switzerland that was created after WWI to provide a forum to help solve
international disputes.
9. The League of Nations is an example of early globalization in many ways. For
example the League of Nations helps other countries avoid humanitarian conflict.
10. Italy left the League in 1937. Few other countries left the League, but all of them
realised that it had failed - instead they began to re-arm as fast as possible During
1938, Britain and France tried a new policy - 'appeasement' (negotiating directly
with Hitler); this failed in 1939 when Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia.
11. The United Nations was established on October 24th 1945, also during the Second
World War.
12. There were 50 original countries in the United Nations.
13. The League of Nations might be considered the forerunner of the United Nations
because they were the organization that helped establish the United Nations.
14. The big 5 members of the UN Security Council is as follows: China, the Russian
Federation, United Kingdon, France, and the United States.
15. Two possible problems is the issues that each countries deal with and how they deal
with them.
16. The newest member of the United Nations is the country of South Sudan.
17. They were founded in the wake of the Second World War.
18. General Assembly- The General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative,
policymaking and representative organ of the UN. Decisions on important questions,
such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary
matters, require a two-thirds majority.

Security Council- Under the Charter, the Security Council has primary
responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has 15
Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter, all Member States are
obligated to comply with Council decisions.
Economic and Social Council- The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is the
United Nations central platform for reflection, debate, and innovative thinking on
sustainable development.
International Court of Justice- The International Court of Justice, also known as
the World Court, is the main judicial organ of the UN. Its 15 judges are elected by
the General Assembly and the Security Council, voting independently and
concurrently.
Secretariat- The Secretariat carries out the substantive and administrative work of
the United Nations as directed by the General Assembly, the Security Council and
the other organs. At its head is the Secretary-General, who provides overall
administrative assistance.
Trusteeship- The Trusteeship Council suspended operation on 1 November 1994,
with the independence of Palau, the last remaining United Nations trust territory, on
1 October 1994. By a resolution adopted on 25 May 1994, the Council amended its
rules of procedure to drop the obligation to meet annually and agreed to meet as
occasion required -- by its decision or the decision of its President, or at the request
of a majority of its members or the General Assembly or the Security Council.
