Resumen
Hacia 1740 comenz a desarrollarse un cambio en la sensibilidad que
haba comenzado con The Castle of Otranto, de Walpole. Se debe
tener presente el concepto de belleza expresado por Burke en A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas on the Sublime and
Beautiful
fuente de lo sublime. En la mayora de las novelas gticas aparecen
mujeres torturadas, o una mujer que sufre incesantemente.
Se tiende a considerar la literatura gtica como una aberracin, una
desviacin. El cuento de terror es tan antiguo como el pensamiento y
el lenguaje humano.
