    Asking

    Pattern
    V1 + Object!/ Dont V1 + Object!
    Or
    Be + Adj!/ Dont be + Adj!

    Examples
    Open the door!
    Move to the front!
    Do your homework!
    Dont go there!
    Dont smoke here!
    Be careful!
    Dont be late!

    Notes:
    Command biasanya dilakukan oleh
    atasan kepada bawahan, atau yg yang
    secara struktural jabatannya lebih tinggi.
    Pada umumnya digunakan dalam dunia
    militer.
    Misal
    Komandan
    kepada
    bawahannya. Bersifat wajib (keharusan),
    jika tidak dilakukan akan kena sanksi.
    Ex: Make line up!

    Request
    Asking someone to do something in polite way.
    Pattern :
    V1 + Object, Please!
    Dont + V1 + Object, Please!
    Or
    Be + Adj, please!
    Dont be + adj, please!

    Polite request using Modals


    Pattern :
    Can /could/ would you + V1 + Object,
    please!
    Can /could/ would you + V1 + Object?
    Would you mind + V+ing + Object,
    Please!
    Would you mind + V+ing + Object?

    A nurse should know how to


    ask the patients to do
    something

    Patients in hospital are usually


    anxious/ restless and fearful/ afraid. It
    is important that hospital staff put
    them at their ease by being polite and
    pleasant. The following expressions
    will guide you how to express polite
    form in English. Be careful about the
    way your voice rises and falls when
    you say those expressions.

    Examples:
    Sit down, please!
    Raise your arms, please!
    Get up, please! We would like to make the
    bed.
    Move your head, please!
    Put out your tongue, please!
    Dont move, please!
    Dont bend your knee, please!

    Be + Adj & Dont be + adj


    Examples :
    Be patient, please!
    Be calm, please!
    Dont be angry, please!
    Dont be lazy, please!

    Using modals

    Can you get up alone?


    Could you stand up?
    Would you bend your back, please!
    Would you mind opening your mouth,
    please!
    Could you roll your sleeve up, please!
    Would you mind taking your dress off?
    Can you lie down here?
    Would you mind wriggling your fingers?
    Could you touch your toes?

    Exercises

    1. Practice with your partner in front of the class


    (patient and nurse). Situation : A nurse gives
    some instructions to her patient, and ask your
    patient to do what you said.
