Unit 1. Interactive Maps and Galleries
Criterion A. Inquiring and Analysing

Part 1. Examples of Interactive Maps

A. Online examples:
Look for 3 online examples of interactive maps used in schools, communities and
establishments.
Here are some examples:

Construct a table to compare the strong and weak points of the 3 online examples of interactive
maps you have chosen.

Strong Points

The hyperlinks work.

I loved how the mad

was clear and it
always said what it
was. I liked how
there were a lot of
colour all over the
mad.

I think its very smart

that when we place
the mouse on top of
the building a picture
automatically
appears.

Weak Points

I dont like the way

the map is placed and
the way it's drawn. I
think it should have
better graphics. I
dont think its
organized, and the
numbers don't make
sense.

I think the map

should have some kind
of description of
what were looking at.

The map should have

been better drawn,
and it should have
more colour.

B. Past student projects:

In our class folder in Group Documents (Design 8C 2014-2015), compare 3 examples of past
student projects on
interactive AISM campus maps and virtual galleries.
Construct a table to compare the strong and weak points of the 3 examples you have chosen.

The Museum of Dance Map 3

Map 1

Strong Points

I think its very

organized, its simple
but effective. There
are a lot of colours.

It has every main

place of our school
ground, and it
explains everything in
detail and has
pictures.

It has clear
explanations and
pictures of every
part in the school.

Weak Points

I think the museum

itself needs more
decorations, like
tables, plants and
chairs.

Some areas of our

school don't have
explanations.

It have too many

colors, and its not
organized, it doesn't
have animations and it
doesn't look like a
museum.

Part II. Problem and Need

A. Problem / Need:
The old AISM website contains an old AISM secondary school campus floorplan which can
be downloaded in .pdf file. Check the campus floorplan here:
http://goo.gl/rnHk8l
The librarian also wants to have an interactive tour for the library.
Explain and justify the need for any 1 of the following: (in 1 paragraph, discuss at least 5
reasons)
changing the old campus floorplan into an interactive map
creating a virtual library tour
creating a virtual gallery of campus life or activities (sports, arts, theater, student life,
environment, technology, etc.)

I would choose to create a virtual gallery of campus life, because its not only a boring map
but people can see what its like to go to the school, you can see inside everything. Its
more realistic than a map, there will animations.
B. Design Challenge:
Your final project is to design and create any one of the following:
a. Interactive AISM campus map
b. Interactive AISM secondary school library map
c. Virtual gallery of AISM secondary school library
d. Virtual gallery of AISM campus activities (sports, arts, theater, environment, technology,
etc.)

paragraph
, answer the following:
summarize and analyse the main points of your research
briefly describe your proposed product (What are you making?)
identify the target audience or intended users for your product (Who will benefit from
your product?)
describe how you product will be useful (How will your product benefit your target
audience or users?)

I have decided to create a virtual gallery based on sports that are practiced at school, it
will include various pictures with different sports, i will talk about competitions and prices
around the world. I want to include a table with the main international records for each
sport. My virtual gallery will be for anyone interested about the school sports, it will show
people what type of sports we practice.
