Cooking Technique
Slicing
Slicing the formal name of
cutting
You slice with a knife
Steps
1. Cut the tomato in half from the
bulb to the tip
2. Place the tomato cut side down
on your chopping board
3. Using the tip of the knife cut
the tomato long ways to make
thin slices
Grating
Grating is when you move an
object up and down on a grater
to make think or thick slices.
Steps
1. Hold the grater over a bowl or
plate with the cheese
2. Slide the block of cheese in an up
and down motion over the plate
3. To get rid of any excess cheese
left on the grater lightly tap on the
side of the grater to remove any
access cheese
Deicing
Cutting the onion into small
block pieces
Steps
1. Cut of the ends with a sharp
knife
2. Put the onion on a flat surface
3. Cut the onion in half long ways
4. Peel of the skin
5. Place the onion face down

bottom making your to the end

Boiling
Boiling is the process of
making a hard surface soft
Steps
1. Fill the pot with water
2. Turn the stove onto high
3. Wait for the water boil
4. Add pasta to the water and stir
with a spoon
5. Turn down the stove slightly to
keep boiling the pasta
6. After its been boiling for 8 to
10 minutes bite into the pasta
and if it is soft you have
cooked it correctly
Baking
Baking Is cooking raw
ingredients and turning in to
them a dry editable food
Steps
1. Preheat your oven
2. Grease your cake pan
3. Mix your wet ingredients into a
large bowl
4. Mix the dry ingredients in a
separate bowl
5. Combine the dry ingredients
with the wet ingredients
6. Pour the batter into the cake
pan
7. Place the mixture in the oven
8. Once cooked remove the cake
using oven mists and let it cool
Frying
Cooking fat in hot food or oil
Steps
1. Heat the oil in a saucepan
2. Make sure your food is dry
3. Place the food into the oil
carefully
4. Keep the food moving
5. Wait a few minutes
6. Remove your food from the oil

7. When it is finished place on a


plate lined with paper towels
Peeling
Peeling is removing the outer
skin of the fruit or vegetable.
STEPs
1. Take the carrot and wash it
2. Once you have dried the
carrot take a peeler
3. Start peeling in a down
wards motion
Whisking
Beating or stirring with a light
rapid movement
Steps
1. Crack some eggs into a
bowl
2. Take a whisker and stir in a
clock wise direction until
done
Sifter
Removes large lumps or
substances
Steps
1. Take some flour and pour it
into a sifter
2. Keep sifting until you have
finished removing any
lumps
Beater
Mixing rapidly in order to make
a mixture
Steps
1. Pour and place in some
ingredients into a bowl.
2. Take a beater and start to
beat in circular motions
3. You will know when to stop
beating when the mixture is
combined and has a good
texture
