Email correspondence 12/16/14 from Nathan Victoria, Director of Member Engagement and

Student Initiatives for NASPA.

Good afternoon, Samantha Garcia,

Thank you for agreeing to serve as an Careers, Academic Advising and Support, and
related Excellence Award Area Category Reviewer for the 2014-2015 Submission year. The
process to access the submissions you are assigned to review is outlined below. Unless you
have heard otherwise from your AAC Chair, your reviews must be completed by 11:59 PM
ET on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Please allow enough time to thoroughly and thoughtfully read
the proposals and provide comments that will guide us in making final decisions
on award submissions, and thank you for doing this volunteer work over the new year.

Once all reviews have been submitted, the entire committee will meet during the week of
January 5. Last week, you should have received a doodle from my colleague, Cameron
Vakilian. If you have not already, please make sure to answer that request ASAP. During this
call, we will look at the aggregate of the scores and select our category winners.

We are using an online reviewer tool, similar to the program review tool for NASPAs
educational programs and annual conference. This will allow us to share feedback on
each award submission to the nominators. The review process will be completed online by
taking the following steps:
1. Click on the following link to access the reviewer
login: http://apps.naspa.org/engage/rev_assignments.cfm
2. Enter in your NASPA membership username and password. (Note: Your username and
password IS your NASPA membership log-in information) *
3. You will be led to a list of your assigned award submissions.
4. Located above the list of assigned programs, there will be the rubric again for your
reference. You can also access the rubric
here: http://www.naspa.org/images/uploads/main/2013NASPAExcellenceAwardsRubric.
pdf.
5. My apologies for the formatting on the awards, but our system currently cannot handle
anything more than plain text. We are working on this edit for next year, so please do not
penalize the submissions for the formatting.

When you review the awards submissions, please be aware that the individuals submitting will
have access to the reviews, although not the names of the reviewers. Be concrete: it is much
more useful for the nominator and the committee if you say: "the program does not show
evidence of any theoretical or conceptual foundation" than if you say: "I didn't like it." It will be
important that you have at least two to three sentences in each section to give depth to your
review. Please make sure that your comments are professional, spelled correctly, and
grammatically proper. When entering your comments, please note that the explanation field is
flexible and can expand when clicking and dragging the arrow in the bottom right hand corner of
the box.

As a reminder, we will be assessing each program on a scale from 1 to 7 on the following
criteria:

Impact on student learning or success

Relevance to Mission and/or advancement of student affairs profession

Meets student needs/critical campus issues

Collaboration with Academic or Other Departments, Sustainability of Program
Originality, Creativity, including Technology Infusion
Application of Research, Theory, Assessment
Quality of Submission

After you have reviewed the award according to the above criteria, there are two final comment
boxes. One comment box the nominators will see. This should be an overview of what you think
about the program. The other comment box is only for your committee to review. In this box,
please feel free to suggest where you see this award in comparison to others.

If you did not attend the reviewer webinar last week, please access the webinar
here: http://youtu.be/CmJfR1deAPY

As stated earlier, the deadline for reviewing programs is 11:59 PM ET on January 4, 2015.
Please note, you can go in and change your reviews up and until this point, so feel free to
change your comments accordingly as you go through the review process. If you have any
problems with the online process or additional questions, please contact me.

On behalf of Mary Jo Gonzales & Melissa Shehane, Chair and Co-Chair of the 20142015 Excellence Awards Process, we thank you for your dedication to the program review
process and to NASPA.

Nathan

My Why: I stand on the shoulders of those who have come before. Not everyone can speak their truths, but I have
been fortunate and privileged in having found mine. Through inspiration, innovation, and improvisation, I empower
those around me, squeaking strategically, to make agents of change.
