Objectives
Students will learn the concept of time through experiencing time in music. They will experiment
with a metronome and see the significant role time plays in the emotions conveyed through
music. Students will play with rhythmic instruments and dance to different tempos.

Instructions:
!
1) Teacher will go over rules for instruments: take one, set it down with your hands on your lap
until instructed to use the instrument * (if you have not access to instruments students can
tap or clap along) (30 sec)
!
2) Students will choose a rhythmic instrument (30 sec)
!
3) Students will listen to the piece Masons Apron which is in 4/4 time** (30 sec)
!
4) Students will play along to the beat (30 sec)
5) Teacher will introduce the metronome: explain Beats per minute (1 min)
quarter note =60 : one beat for every second
Play the song to 60 bpm
Have students join in with their instrument
Quarter note=120 would be 2 beats in each second or 1 beat per 0.5 seconds (1 min)
Play song with a tempo of 120 bpm
Have students play along with their instrument

**This lesson can be done to introduce different time signatures like 2/4, 3/4, 6/8, etc
!
