Classroom Management

Evaluations:

Students will be evaluated be tests and assignments as well as the completion of class work and
homework.
Evaluations will encompass formal and informal assessments.
Formal assessments will also adhere to summative assessments following the completion of a
lesson.
Informal assessments will be used to track progression, pacing, and will be the guiding
mechanism by which students will be leveled.
Levels: Exceeds Proficiency, Proficient, In Progress
Participation will be evaluated.
Participation during class discussion, group work and activities will be used to assess whether a
student has successfully achieved the set objective.
Grading will be conducted based on a number or letter system as per the schools grading directives.
Rubrics will be used for assignments as well as reading, writing, etc.
Rubrics will be provided to parents/guardians where it may apply.

Discipline Plan:

Class rules will be outlined for the students on the first day of school and will be visibly present as a
means of reference.
Seating will be changed periodically in order to foster varied interactions among the students as well as
diminish possible distractions as well as disruptive behavior.
Parents/Guardians will be made aware of student behavior, both positive and negative.
o Recognition of positive behavior will be reflected in
Time out will be instilled during play time/recess.
Privileges will be revoked for the day or week if time out does not work to resolve behavior or if the
behavior persists.
If a problem persists, or if there is a truly troubling behavior such as abuse, stealing, etc., a note will be
sent home, and a meeting will be arranged with the parent/guardian as well as applicable administrative
staff.
If destruction of property or physical injury of another student occurs, this will result in a meeting with
the parents/guardian as well as applicable administrative staff.
The principal will be made aware of all severe incidences.
The presence of the principal and guidance counselor, if available, will be requested for all instances of
destruction to property and physical activity.

Rules:

Zero tolerance will be enforced within the classroom and misconduct will not be accepted, as to assure a
safe, comfortable, and productive classroom environment.
Rules are easily visible within the classroom.
Students are expected to adhere to the rules of the classroom as well as the rules of the school.
Rules will be dictated at the beginning of the school year and repeated as necessary.

Special Needs:

The special needs and disabilities of students are a priority.


Students will have every opportunity to excel to their full potential.
The teacher as well as the appropriate school staff will assist to the needs of students and will adhere to
the particular needs of students.
Accommodations will be made for students who have unique learning potential.
Students who have Independent Education Plans, 504 Plans, or any other specifications will be
accommodated as per their assigned directives.
Differentiated instruction and manipulatives will be infused to cater to the needs and strengths of
each student.
Cooperative grouping will be utilized in order to give students the opportunity to interact with their
peers, gaining varied perspectives and building on their varied strengths.

Communication:

A folder system will be implemented as a means of communication between the teacher/school and
parent/guardian.
Folders will be handed in at the beginning of the day and given back at the end of the day.
o Papers from the school may include but are not limited to:
School work
Tests/dittos*
Letters between the parents/guardian and the teacher
o Papers from the school may include but are not limited to:
Lunch schedules
Upcoming special events

* Notes from the doctor or any related notifications should be sent to the school to be maintained within student
files.
Bathroom:

Students will go to the bathroom as a class following periods in which they have eaten. This
encompasses snack time as well as lunch time.
If a child needs to leave the room for any reason, bathroom, nurse, etc. they are to be accompanied by a
classmate.
Students will need to sign out/in.

Fire Drills:

Fire drills will follow the protocol as per the schools directives.
The way in which children line up and exit will be practiced once every week at the beginning of the
school year and following the schools schedule for fire drills.
