Dear Mr. Doe
I am interested in applying for the first grade teaching position currently available at your school. I am a 2014 graduate of
the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, and though I am newly established, this will be my
second year of experience, as I partook in a student teaching position that acted in legitimate circumstance. I have
experience in student teaching at the second grade level in the downtown Phoenix district.
At this time, I am still at my current school, and I am working diligently in my class in order to instill strong morals and a
solid foundation for at-risk students. I work with special education students who have IEPs or a 504 plan, and by doing so,
I am gaining experience with inclusion, as well as furthering resilience in these students.
My passion for music and leadership have been the greatest motivators for my interest in becoming a teacher. With my
background in both of these fields, I am able to implement music in my curriculum. Music has several benefits in a childs
development, including strengthening of memorization, deeper social skills, faster connectivity in processes, and learning
an instrument at a young age attributes to a more wholesome upbringing, and has a greater influence on the decision to
continue to a higher education. My experience in leadership has taught me valuable lessons is working with my peers for
a common goal. In this case, I am looking forward to striving for success with these students along side my counterparts. I
also have excellent knowledge in time management, responsibility, prioritizing, and reliability. I have experience in
designing lesson plans, and I have countless resources that pertain to my interests in being a teacher.
Through my years of schooling, I have been equipped with knowledge and tools from my professors that are relevant in
present situations with the school system. My experience with English as a second language students, and my
background in Spanish have well prepared me to work with students struggling with a language barrier. My knowledge of
students with behavioral and learning disabilities has given me the opportunity to reach out and help these students, and
encourage them to succeed in different areas if they are concerned with struggling in a particular one. Courses I was
enrolled in through my higher education include:
TEL 215 (Child and Adolescent Development)

SPE 222 (Orientation to Special Education)

GCU 113 (U.S. and Arizona History for Elementary Education Majors)

Taking these courses has established an understanding for the way a child learns, and have given me a greater
knowledge of inclusion and educating minds that think differently.

It is my goal to create a classroom environment that is safe and helpful to students. By promoting creativity and values
beyond the curriculum, I hope to provide students with a meaningful education. I hope that my enthusiasm regarding
education will inspire students and teachers to not only meet but exceed expectations, and to receive the most of their
education. I thank you for your time in this matter.
Sincerely,

Gabrielle King
