Griffin-Sobel, J., Acee, A., Sharoff, L., Cobus-Kuo, L., Woodstock-Wallace, A., & Dornbaum,
M. (2010). A TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO FACULTY DEVELOPMENT in
nursing education technology. Nursing Education Perspectives, 31(1), 41-3.
1. RELEVANCY: The article does pertain to my topic of technology in the nursing field. The
article supports my topic as it illustrates the need for being technology literate, as technology is
flourishing in todays nursing. The article stresses the need for including IT as part of the nursing
school curriculum, as well as for the nursing instructors to keep up with the current technology.
Technology includes electronic documentation, accessing literature and drug reference materials,
and communicating with others at the bedside by means of a personal digital assistant (PDA) are
expected competencies of a graduate nurse. Nurses must be active in using electronic health
records and also be knowledgeable about privacy and confidentiality acts within information
systems.
2. ACCURACY: I do not detect any biases, as the authors have simply laid out the information
and how it pertains to nursing education. The article includes data from the National League for
Nursing as well as from Health Information Technology Scholars. The information is presented
as facts, and I did not detect any errors in the article.
3. CURRENCY: The article is less than five years old as it was published in February 2010. The
age of the source does not affect its relevancy, because as time goes on the more technology will
continue to emerge which continues to support the topic of needing to be IT literate.
4. AUTHORITY: Yes the authors are very qualified to be an authority on the topic as they are
nursing professors and have an emphasis on the education curricula and technology for the
Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing, New York, New York. The article came from the Nursing
Education Perspectives, which stay up to date on the needs of nursing students related to how the
nursing field continues to change.

nursing field, and the various ways it is changing. I think the article mainly comes from one
point of view but I do not feel the author has omitted any data. The data is clear and easy to read.
6: RATING: I rate this article a 4. I found it very informative, easy to read and contained up to
date information.
