1. OPEN WITH A HOOK


-Open the lesson with a hook to engage

learners that involves:


*an interesting fact
*question
*story

2. LIMIT YOUR TEXT


-Simplify the number of words on each slide
-Use key phrases
-Only use essential information

3. LIMIT THE NUMBER OF SLIDES


-Dont try to show too much information at once
*ESL learners need short and sweet lessons
-Slides should be simple and to the point

4. USE VISUALS
Video clips, pictures, and sounds can be used to
reinforce learning for ESL students
Be sure to use them in moderation

5. BE SENSITIVE TO THEIR CULTURE


Be mindful of their cultural beliefs
*What could be a joke to us could be offensive in their
culture!

Ex: Telling a student to go break a leg or get out of


town
*make sure to thoroughly explain any jokes and expressions
*avoid any slang words in power points

6.SPEAK LOUD AND CLEAR


-Make sure to articulate when speaking
-Avoid slang and mumbling
-DO NOT read off of the slide
-Speak at a steady rate so all ESL students will be
able to listen and follow the lesson

7. CLOSURE/REPEAT
Close your PowerPoint with a discussion,
question, activity, or other assessment to reenforce learning
Answer any questions a student may have
