Thinking process = Classifying

Thinking Map = The Tree Map

(A Language for Learning pp42-47)

Looks like:

How does it work?

How might you classify, group, sort a range of objects, people, ideas
etc?
1. At the top put the objects/people/ideas that are to be classified
2.

3.
4.
5.

(grouped, sorted etc).

On the next row down put the categories. These can be decided
before hand or you can leave people to choose their own
categories.
A category can divide down into sub-categories see the left
hand column above.
Under the categories or sub-categories, you put details
(examples).
The Tree Map can have a frame of reference which might focus
the categorisation (see example on next page) but does not have
to.

Example

Your turn!
Work together and develop a Tree Map of a topic of your own choosing.
You will be using this to teach the others in the larger group that you
will be returning to.
Good luck!!
