(what & how)

TEACHING & LEARNING

EXPERIENCES
(include learner diversity)

1. Students can
identify the name
and sound in each
letter of the letter
focus group.
(m/r/h/e/d/c).
2. Students can
demonstrate
appropriate use of
ICT. i.e. using
iPads
appropriately and
staying on task.
3. Students can
illustrate working
cooperatively with
peers in small
groups

Students will be
assessed on
their ability to
name and
sound out the
letters
m/r/h/e/d/c
using an
observational
checklist. The
teacher will
assess each
child
individually and
write their
answers on the
checklist.
Objectives two
and three will

Introduction
The teacher will explain
enthusiastically that she has
organised some fun
activities for todays
rotation.
The teacher will play the
alphabet song to motivate
the students, whilst pointing
out the focus letters
m/r/h/e/d/c.
The teacher will remind
students of the name and
sounds the letters make
using the Interactive
Whiteboard.
Students will be split into 5 groups
(named group 1 to 5) to complete
the rotational activities.

Body
1. Play dough: students
practise making upper and
lower case letters using the
play dough. Once the
student has made a letter,
the teacher will ask them to
sound it out and create a
word using it.
2. Metal detector game:
students will take turns
using the metal detectors to
find the hidden letters (the
letters will have magnets on
the back of them)
(M/R/H/E/D/C) in the sand.
Students will say the letter
and sound it out.
3. QR codes: Each student
will be given five QR codes,
a matching set of photos,
letters and words. Using the
ipad app, students will scan
the QR code. They will be
asked a question and must
answer it by matching it to a
letter, photo or word. They
will then stick it onto the QR
code.
4. Beebots worker bee:
Students will take turns
rolling the die and moving
their beebot. The worker
beebot has to collect all the
different letters and sort
them into upper and lower
case. As the beebot lands
on a letter the student
places in on their
upper/lower case board.

5. Microscope activity:
Students will take turns
searching the fairy garden
for the hiding upper/lower
case letters. When they find
a letter, they must find its
corresponding upper/lower
case letter. There will also
be a mystery bag set up
with various items in it
starting with the letters
m/r/h/e/d/c. The students
must pick an object and
name the letter it starts with
and the sound the letter
makes.
Conclusion
Students will be asked to
pack away and sit on the
mat.
Students will be asked what
there favourite activity was
and why.
There will be six containers
set up at the front of the
class, and students will be
asked to come up
individually and sort the
letters, words and pictures
into the corresponding letter
basket (m/r/h/e/d/c).
Learner Diversity: To assist
students who require extra
assistance, a teachers assistant
will be available to walk around
and provide the extra help.
