Rupture the Chain of Poverty
Nearly half of the worlds population more than 3 billion people live on less than
$2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty, that's less than $1.25 a day (11
Facts About Global Poverty). Poverty has been introduced to our world for thousands of years
by the remote situation of a small amount of money, no opportunity for education, and dire
lifestyles. Our work is not to find the source that commenced poverty, but our work is to find the
source to exterminate poverty. Think of how your life would change without a comfortable
shelter, without education, and without the money needed. It is not only the the government's
duty to promote progress in poverty, but its our duty as citizens to establish behaviors that will
extremely benefit not only the earth, but our own people. Several instances have occurred related
to poverty; for example, in 1964 President Johnson declared a war on poverty, the great
depression occurred in the 1830s, and in 1996, $27 million in cuts were made to the food stamp
program.
Most have not experienced the threatening and repressive poverty and do not know the
anguish poverty hands to people. But when you see the murky hands of the homeless and see
them beg for money; when you see the pictures of the great depression in which unemployment
was involved and a lack of healthy lifestyles, when you see a single mother working at two jobs
to pay rent, provide food, and protect the children; when you see a familys empty pantry, empty
home, and empty chimney; when you see a child laboring in the drastic sun instead of having the

opportunity to attend school; when you see a family suffer from lack of food for days and they
weep, collapse, and plead; then you will discern the cruelties and stabbing pains of poverty.
Fellow friends, I inquire of you to open your innocent eyes and search a solution. From a
small and undeveloped town in South Africa to New York City, the poverty will not halt from
being found. Will some of you make a change in poverty? What can we do to stop the appalling,
contagious disease of poverty? Take action! This next article differentiates on what we should do
and our chances; John Lanchester, a journalist in a London newspaper, exclaims rising
inequality is not a law of nature -- it's not even a law of economics... Inequality in the developed
world fell for most of the 20th century; we can make it fall for most of the 21st century, too. But
it won't happen without sustained pressure on politicians from electorates (Who Gets the
Cream?). As Lanchester remarks, we need to pressure politicians and uprise in an effort to make
the solutions available. A form in which we can benefit the poor is to donate to charities, help
fundraise for educational opportunities, and create beneficial behaviors that will save money,
food, and natural resources.
Paul Ryan, a writer for The Wall Street Journal, notices that we arent exactly fighting
poverty, Ryan proposed a plan that would renovate poverty programs by establishing federal
grants. These grants would consolidate up to 11 programs -- such as food stamps, housing
assistance and cash welfare -- into one funding stream, and allow states to experiment with
different ways of customizing aid (A Better Way Up From Poverty). The perplexed, powerful,
and prominent government should attempt on testing methods to truly help families. We do not
need to establish a large organization, but if each of us contributes we will be of great support to
others in poverty. Some may argue that there is no complete assurance that these methods will
work and that inequality is a long-lasting thing. Although it might last for an extensive amount of

time, poverty is a topic that should be attempted to be ceased. We know that no place can be
peaceful like the Garden of Eden, but by slowly halting our issues it will help many to have an
easier and robust lifestyle. Let us be prudent, humble, and sympathetic to consider the forlorn
and unfair lives of others and cease the burden of poverty.
