PROJECT CHARTER

Project: AMRITA PERSONAL SAFETY SYSTEM (APSS)

Date: August 20, 2014

Project Scope

The purpose of the APSS project is to design and construct a wearable

device which can trigger emergency alerts through smart phones or
the safety devices.
This project focuses on women safety in India.
It is also designed to help police, relatives & friends to reach the user
by monitoring the location in real time, in the time of distress.

Business Case
Many women are afraid to be alone in public places due to fear of
being harmed. This fear has been caused by repeated cases of violence
towards women. Each and every day hundreds of abuse cases are reported
against women and children. Children are being abducted for many illicit
reasons.
Women are being raped, harassed and tortures. How safe are elderly
alone in their homes?. People keep losing track of their way home due to
Dementia or Alzheimer. In order to combat this fear Amrita University is to
introduce a new device that helps empower women to have no fear while
being alone. AMMA stressed the need for developing technology to protect
and make Indian women feel more safe.
