What are some of the primary tasks or job duties performed?
When you are a Police Officer you have to protect the lives and properties of others. Make sure
that people are following the law, not doing anything bad. When youre a Detective its your job
to collect evidence of the possible crime. You have to try to figure out what happen and who did
the crime. Some of the task for being an Immigration and Customs Inspector is you have to be
able to examine immigration applications, visa, and passports. Be able to interview people.
Inspect a persons cargo, baggage, and personal articles before entering or leaving the U.S. Be
able to locate and seize contraband, undeclared merchandise, and vehicles, aircraft, or even boats
that may contain such merchandise. Some task you have to do while being a Criminal
Investigators and Special Agent, be able to prepare reports with details of the investigation,
verify information by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses. Record evidence and
documents, using cameras and other photocopy machines. Search for and collect evidence such
as fingerprints, investigative equipment. Obtain and use a search/arrest warrants
What types of knowledge, skills and abilities are required?
Some of the skills you have to have to become a Detective or a Police Officer. You have to have
good communication skills be able to speak to people, present facts and crimes. Empathy be
able to understand the perspectives of the people that you are working with, willing to help
people in public. Have good judgment best way to solve a wide array of problems quickly.
Good leadership skills be comfortable with being a highly visible member of the community,
know how to help people in emergency situations. Perceptiveness be able to understand why a
person is acting a certain way, know how to handle it. Physical Stamina (mostly for Police
Officers) be in good shape, pass the required field tests, keep up with others in the job. And be
Physical Strength be strong enough to physically apprehend offenders. Some of the knowledge
and skills you need to know to be an Immigration and Customs Investigator. Have to know the
laws and governments of the U.S., Public safety and security, be able to speak in English, know
how to work with computers and other electronics. Some skills you have to have are active
listening, critical thinking, speaking with others, reading and understand documents, social
perceptiveness, writing, active learning, coordination. Some of the skills, knowledge, and
abilities you need to have/know are criterial thinking, complex problem solving, social
perceptiveness, judgment and decision making. Have deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning,
oral comprehension, oral expression, problem senility, speech and written expression.
