This study compared the effects of bay leaf and celery leaf infusions on increasing HDL cholesterol levels in dyslipidemic rats. Rats were given a high fat diet and PTU for two weeks to induce dyslipidemia, then treated with simvastatin, bay leaf infusion, celery leaf infusion, or water for one week. HDL levels were measured before and after treatment. The results found no significant differences in HDL levels within or between the treatment groups. Both bay leaf and celery leaf infusions did not effectively increase HDL cholesterol in dyslipidemic rats.

Leaf Infusion Effect on Increasing HDL Level in Dyslipidemic Wistar Rats Model) Abstract Dyslipidemia is a condition in which there is abnormal blood lipid profiles, including decreasing HDL level. Flavonoids are substances containing antidislipidemia effects that can be found in the bay and celery leaves. The aim of this study was to explore bay leaf and celery leaf infusion effect on increasing HDL level in dyslipidemic rat model. The type of this study was true experimental research using pre-post test control group design with 24 wistar rat (Rattus novergicus) as the sample. The rats were induced by high fat diet and PTU for two weeks then each group were treasted either simvastatin (K+), bay leaf infusion (P1), celery leaf infusion (P2), or aquadest (K-) for a week. HDL was measured pre induction, pre treatment, and post treatment used endpoint method with Mikrolab 300. Delta of HDL levels in group K+ was 0.68 mg/dl, in group P1 was -1.72 mg/dl, in group P2 was 1.97 mg/dl, and in group K+ was 2.05 mg/dl. Paired T-test data analysis showed p=0.745 in group K+, p=0.420 in group P1, p=0.309 in group P2, p=0.057 in group K+, and one way ANOVA data analysis showed p=0.745. The study concluded that there was no difference between bay leaf infusion and celery leaf infusion on increasing HDL levels in wistar rats.
