Description
This physical education course is a 1.0 credit course composed of lessons that are designed to get the students thinking
of ways to be active. There will be research involved, as well as presentations and games. This course is not merely
just to have the children running around without structure, but enhancing the students knowledge of what being
physically fit and healthy requires and its significance.

Expectations and Goals

The importance of physical education is to provide resources for our students to live healthy lifestyles into adulthood.
Students will demonstrate the knowledge of various exercises throughout the course, presented in the form of everyday
activities and games. The goal is to get our students moving and relieve stress so that they can perform to the best of
their ability in the classroom.
TEKS: (2) Movement. The student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor
skills. The student is expected to:
(A) Use internal and external information to modify movement during performance;
(B) Describe appropriate practices and procedures to improve skill and strategy in an activity;
(C) Develop an appropriate conditioning program for the selected activity; and
(D) Identify correctly the critical elements for successful performance within the context of the activity

Classroom Management
Our classroom has a Hawaiian beach theme. The students will be working toward a Hawaiian beach party at the
end of the semester. Each student will earn individual points for performing the required tasks (dressing out,
participation, etc.) and their individual points will contribute to the classs points as a whole. Once the class has
reached a certain number of points, we will have a Hawaiian party that parents are also invited to. There will be
various water activities, games, hula skirts, prizes and more. Parents are encouraged to make sure their student is
coming to class ready to participate.
Classroom rules include:
-

Students will come to class dressed out everyday

Students will participate in daily activities
Students will listen when the teacher is talking/giving instruction
Student will use appropriate language

Course Materials
Required Materials
Students are required to come to class dressed out daily.
-

There will be time given before class starts for students to change so there are no excuses why the
student should be late or not dressed out.
Being dressed out means: a regular tee shirt (no cleavage or tight fitted dress shirts), basketball shorts or
gym shorts (no shorter than mid-thigh), running shoes (shoes that the student will have good support in).
Students are encouraged to have contacts if they wear glasses otherwise the condition of their glasses are
being worn at their discretion.
Students will NOT be allowed to participate if they are not dressed out. Points will be deducted from their
participation grade every time it occurs.

Students are required to participate in activities.

-

Students who do not comply with this rule will be sent to an alternate classroom with an alternate
assignment.

If the student is unwilling to engage in any activity, this will result in a referral to the office.

Optional Materials
There will be activities where the students will be working with their peers. Presentations may require the student to
bring items from home otherwise all materials are provided for the students. Materials are TBA.

Required Text
No text book is required for this course.

Attendance Policy
Students will need to attend class every day. Experiences cannot be "made up" outside of class time. All absences are
"excused" (such as sickness, death in the family, fieldtrip for school purposes, etc.). Frequent absences reflect poorly
on the student due to the class being fast paced and potentially falling behind. Reoccurring tardiness or early exits will
be counted as absences. Two tardies/early exits will equal one absence. You must contact with your peers or myself
for any missing assignments,
Students are allowed 3 absences, but on the fourth absence, 10 points will be deducted from the final course grade.
Arriving at least 10 minutes after the beginning of class, not coming dressed out, or leaving at least 10 minutes before
the end of class may also result in an absence.

Homework/Late work Policy

Students are required to obtain any assignments missed from the teacher. Homework is allowed to be made up by the
END of the next day you were absent. Therefore, if you are absent on Wednesday, you have until the end of the day
Thursday to have the assignment turned in. Certain conditions may alter the turn in policy if the assignment lasted
longer than a few days. For every day that the assignment is late, there will be points deducted.
One day late: 10 point deduction (highest grade you can make is 90%)
Two days late: 20 points deducted (highest grade you can make is 80%)
Three days late: 30 points deducted (highest grade you can make is 70%)
I will NOT accept any assignments over four days late. Furthermore, if your homework is four days late, your grade will
result in 0% credit. Parents are encouraged to make sure students stay on top of their homework daily. There will be a
schedule online that will show what assignment should be due on what days so there wont be any excuses accepted. I
will hold my students accountable for their actions.
