Summary

Starting off with my grandparents Jerry and Janet Campbell they were married on Dec
31, 1963. Jerry and Janet Campbell then purchased a small group of buses and vans from Reed
Campbell (no relation) in May 1969. Campbell Bus Company continued adding school bus
routes in the Moniteau School District as rural schools consolidated and contractors with very
small fleets of buses were going out of business. As the business continued to grow so did their
family, they had three children Arthur, Todd, and Karen.
Buco Transportation Incorporated was formed in May 1974. The original owners were
Jerry Campbell and Brenton Holter. Jerry owned and operated Campbell Bus Company and
Brenton Holter owned and operated Grove City Bus Lines. Jerry was operating school buses in
West Sunbury and Mt. Chestnut at the time, and the formation of BUCO allowed him to operate
charter school bus trips. The name BUCO stands for Butler County. In the fall of 1977, the first
charter bus was added to the company.
From 1974 through 1985 the company operated primarily from the West Sunbury school
bus garage. Several more GM coaches were purchased as the business expanded. During this
time, Jerry took over Brenton Holters share of the business. In October of 1985 the company
expanded into the Slippery Rock area with the purchase of Snyder Bus Company. This purchase
brought our first large college / university contract. In 1989 the company moved into a new
office / garage in Slippery Rock. All of the coaches and charter school buses were moved to
Slippery Rock.

At this time we changed the companys operating name to BUCO Trans. Inc., DBA
Campbell Bus Lines. Now that Brenton Holter was not involved with the business and because
of the name recognition of Campbell Bus Co. we made this change. In July 1992 a school bus
garage was built to house all Slippery Rock school buses. Campbell Bus Company continues to
be the only school transportation provider for the Moniteau School District. May 1996 we
purchased the property that adjoined the Slippery Rock facility. The property had been operated
for many years as a lumber yard, we are able to use many of the out buildings for storage to this
day.
After my father took control of the business he then met my mother on a bus trip. Some
similar themes seen throughout my family history is the need to stand on your own two feet and
create something of your own. The bus company has meant a lot to my family and has given me
an opportunity to run it if I so chose to. Personally I have never really wanted to be a part of the
family business, I have always been the one among my brothers to go my own way and take the
path that no one else has. My family has skills pf strength and determination.
