Goals/Objectives/Standards (Please include the NETS standards):
Nets: 1. Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. 1c. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues CCSS: K.MP.4. Model with Mathematics; students experiment with representing problem situations in multiple ways including numbers, words (mathematical language), drawing pictures, using objects, acting out, making a chart or list, creating equations, etc. Students need opportunities to connect the different representations and explain the connections. Timeline/structure of lesson: Time Opening/Framing the Lesson/Introduction/Early Assessment 15 After the students get into partners, I will begin by passing out Minutes the worksheets and dominos to each pair. Using the document camera, I will demonstrate 3 problems to all students showing and explain the expectations for this assignment. 20 The Lesson Structure: (describe your Activities) Minutes 1. Once the worksheets are passed out I will dominos on to the document camera to show the class how they can complete solve these problems. WS. 2. Once the demonstration is finished, the students will 15 work with their partners to solve the problems on the minutes rest of the worksheet. to do 3. As each group finishes, they will bring their worksheets problems up to me to check, once all are correct they will have on board. time to play the math matching game or use the iPad math applications. 4. After all the groups have finished, we will come together as a class and fill in the rest of the worksheet using the SMART board. 5. Each partner will have a chance to pick one of the nine remaining problems and write the answer they got on the board as well as showing the problem using dominos. Closing/Assessment After the students explain the remainder of the problems, I will go over any misunderstandings or questions they may have come up with.
Homework NONE
Monitor/Feedback
I will be available and walking
around throughout the designated work time to monitor behavior and ensure the partners are working together.
Self Evaluation of the Lesson
With the repetition of the problems using the dominos as well as writing the number representations, the students are getting the problem at least three times. Once with the picture, once with the number representation of the picture and once with the physical dominos. This will reassure they understand the concept of addition. By going over the worksheet as a class, the students can see the way different groups computed the problem and they also gain the knowledge of explaining their answer.
