French Revolution in Pictures

Today, France still celebrates Bastille Day.
When the people stormed the Bastille, Louis
finally got the hint that revolution was nigh.
In this picture, you can see all of the angry
French workers & Peasants storming the Castile
of Bastille. You can see that they are fighting
which is symbolizing the revolution. You can
also see gun fire and smoke which means that
there has been fighting.

What happened during the Storming of the Bastille?


The storming of Bastille marked the beginning of the French Revolution. 900
angry French workers and peasants stormed the Castile and Prison to show their
angle against their unfair rights and ways of living (the Feudal system).
Who might have supported this event?
The people of France would have been behind and supporting this event. They
were angry because King Louis and Queen Marie Antoinette had been making
them pay taxes so that they could afford their expensive lifestyle.

family busted by French democrats. King Louis
and Marie Antoinette were apprehended in
Varennes, just miles from the Austrian
border. Some say the strong scent of the
queen's perfume gave their whereabouts
away.
In this picture, you can see that two of the
main figures are King Louis and Queen Marie
Antoinette as they are wearing the nicest
clothes that royals would wear. You can than see that someone is holding a gun.
That person would be someone fighting against the royals. You can also see
angry French people storming in through the door, this would be when they were
getting arrested.
What does the above photo indicate about King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette?
That the king and queen were scared/ surprised about what was happening
them. You can also see on their faces that they are scared and worried about
what is going to happen to them and their duties.

Why were they being arrested?

The King and queen were being arrested as they had not been contributing to
their duties. They were also taking tax money off the innocent towns people just
so that they could afford their expensive lifestyle. They ran an unfair feudal
system. You can see in the picture that there are angry French men and women
breaking into the palace to arrest them.

are from the higher classes from the
French Feudal system. They are standing over the man from the third
class representing that they are from a higher class and are more
important. Although from their stance and facial expressions, you can see
that they are worried about what is going to happen to them as the third
class people are fighting back. You can see that in the picture.
What message is being portrayed about the Estate System in the

That the two men standing are from a higher estate as they are standing over
the man that is chained up. You can see the man from the third estate trying to
break three and escape. The 2 men are worried as he is the fighting back,
against the higher class.

that they are not the happiest and have the king and queens head on
sticks. This is symbolizing that they want to kill them because of the bad
and terrible things that they have done to the people of France.

In the picture above, the third estate are having a meeting. This is an
important event and they were on the tennis court. They were planning
the revolution and discovered that they had power in numbers to take
over France. This was the beginning of the French Revolution and the
people of France all held a lot of anger.
The 1791 slave rebellion in Santo Domingo, which gave
way to the Haitian Revolution, was inspired, in part,
by the French Revolution. The world was rife with
revolutionary fervor, given that the French
Revolution, in turn, had been influenced by the
American Revolution.

In this picture, the slaves of Santo Domingo are


causing havoc as their lives were rife and
revolutionary and decided to take action as the
Peasants had done in the French revolution.

What caused this violent behavior?


The slave rebellion were treated poorly, owned nothing, and had to work
hard every day. They had homes on the land although were not allowed to
own them. Just like the how the French Revolution had begun, the slaves
had unfair rights and decided that it was time to take charge.

violence and bloodshed but also brotherhood and liberty.

chose to use these three pictures because of the violence that the French
workers and peasants are displaying against the King and Queen. They
are showing their anger against the King and Queen and are fighting back.
You can see smoke, gun fire, and killing which adds to the idea that the
French Revolution was a time of terror and violence.
