Technology to Support Assessment

Technology is very beneficial when it comes to the learning environment. Instructional

teaching is important also. In todays society technology is the future. By 2020, I think most
things will be done with technology. By technology supporting the learning environment helps
the teacher and student achieve more to be life-long learners.
There are several ways that technology can be used to facilitate learning. One way is
portfolios. Portfolios help access web-based work to collect on students. It can help your
understand the student and see where the student needs help in. Then you have the clickers that
students can click to give a response to their answer to a teachers question. This is also a way to
access your students. If a fourth of your class missed a certain question that is the area that they
need the most help in. This is a good way to know what part of content they didnt understand.
Another way that technology can help with accessing a student is with blackboard. Blackboard
assessment manager allows you to create quizzes and other assignment to keep students engaged
in learning (www.hunter.cuny.edu). There are many ways to access students in the classroom. A
formative assessment helps identify the students strengths and weaknesses. It can be a quiz or
just for short summary questions to answer on the test. A formative lets you know in detail what
area that a student is struggling in. Formative assessment provides an ongoing learning
environment. A summative assessment is for end of the unit or even the end of a six-week period.
It helps you to know what all did the student learn over a period of time. It can let you know that
the short quizzes that you give them did or did not help at the end of the day or week
(www.cmu.ed/teaching/assessment/basis/formative-summative).

Some problems may occur, but problems are a way of life. The pros of technology to
accessing students are it is easy to do. It is a lot of web-tools that make it so easy for you to
make up a test or a quiz. All the students are engages in learning if it is group work. Then it
helps students self-esteem. It is a learning experience for students. The cons of using
technology are that it may take certain period of them to get the data information back on certain
test. Some students may not be comfortable with taking test on computers. Each student is
different.
I think paper test should be used also. I think most test are done on paper. Even when
districts do assessments, they are done as a booklet and have scantrons. You should let students
use theirs skills in learning different ways. All students learn different. There are nine ways of
learning, if technology is used how will those nine ways of learning be taught to students in the
learning environment? There may be a student(s) that need decoding help, like hands on. This
type of student only learns better with instructional help in this area (21things4teachrs.net).
Technology can help you meet all your ISTE standards when used correctly. When you meet
the standards in the ISTE, it covers a lot on content. Technology helps with the ongoing learning
environment for each student. Technology facilitates the learning of each student to enhance
their learning. Technology is necessary these days to make sure that a students needs are met
especially in the education field. Technology is making the students of today to be prepared for
society to be a productive citizen in life (edudemic.com).
