Age of Child(ren): 3-
Child Procedures:
1. First, the children will listen to the read aloud
2. Next, the children will listen to the instructions for the activity and then
watch the demonstration for doing it
3. Then the children will wait their turn to select a button
4. Afterwards, the children will participate by matching their buttons to
the shapes in the sections of the tray
5. When the children has completed the sort-by-shape activity, they will
sort the buttons by color
6. Finally, the children will answer open-ended questions after the
activity
Conversation to Support Learning/Talking with Children:
What are some other shapes we could have used for sorting today?
How can sorting help when you put away your toys?
How many different shapes do you think we have sorted today? Lets
count and see.
If you were to sort other things what would be some things that you
would like to sort?
What are some letters that we used in this activity?
Observations and Assessment:
The children will sort and match shapes that they see in their
environment. They will be able to classify and organize to two different
attributes, by shape and color. While sorting the buttons by shapes and
colors, they will be able to recognize some letters by the picture labels on
the sorting tray.
Accommodations for individuals:
Simplification for atypical learners:
To simplify this activity, I will provide only a few shapes and limit it to:
(Square, Triangle, Oval, and Flower)
Challenge for advanced learners:
To make this activity challenging, I will provide additional button shapes to
the activity such as the heart, star, diamond, and hexagon.
