Today, racial stereotypes still exist, they are a present force in institutional, personal and structural parts of American life. We are forced into thinking the color of our skin is our worth, every time you confuse me with a nationality I might share similar features to, it is slowly stripping away my identity.

    immigrantswiththesamedream.Thiswassoonbrokenup.Friendsandfamilyfromtheold
    countryfoundeachotherinthisnewlandofpromiseandhardwork.Neighbourhoodsbecame
    smallcommunitieswhichweresimilartotheonesleftbehind.Factoriescategorizedworkers
    byethnicbackgroundandthustheracialstereotypeswereborn.
    Today,racialstereotypesstillexist,theyareapresentforceininstitutional,personal
    andstructuralpartsofAmericanlife.Doorsofopportunityareshutduetotheskillsandtraits
    automaticallyassignedtosomeonewithadarkershadeofskinortheshapeoftheireyes.We
    areforcedintothinkingthecolorofourskinisourworth.Andeverytimeyouconfusemewith
    anationalityImightsharesimilarfeaturesto,itisslowlystrippingawaymyidentity.
    Individualismiscontinuallycrushedbyasocietythatalwaysprojectsthegrowingminoritiesas
    asecondrole,nevertheleader.

    LetmetellyouaboutthestrugglesofbeinganasianimmigrantinAmerica:whenyou
    arestillplayingwithLegoblocksbutyourEnglishisalreadythatmuchbetterthanyour
    guardianswhenyourclassmatescallyouchinkdespitethefactthatyouarenotevenfrom
    China,butlittledotheyknowthatthewordchinkcomesfromtheclankingfrommetalto
    railroadasslavesbuiltthetraintracksthatconnectedthiscountrytogetherwhennomatter
    howmuchyouaccomplish,yourparentsholdyoutothestereotypicalasianstandardof

    success,astandardthatcannevertrulybeachievedwearetryingtomakeitinthiscountry

    Iftheyouthcannotbeeducated,howcanweexpectthemtotakecareofus
    whenweareoldandmattersareoutofourhands?WeholdLatinostoalowstandard,
    especiallyinCalifornia.WeholdAsianstoanextremelyhighstandard,doctor,lawyer.CEO
    younameit.Withoutpropereducation,immigrantchildrenarereducedtonothingbuta
    stereotype,astatistic.Butwhatsomepeopledonotunderstandisthatschoolisthemost
    stableplaceinthesechildrenslives.Bettereducationleadstonewerinnovation.Soletus
    rewritehistory,becausetheworldhassomanyproblemsthatneedefficientsolutions.We
    willcreateourownhistories,uponcanvas,uponpaper,uponwalls,uponminds.
