Students will be introduced to the forces which lead to deformation of the earth's crust, and be able to apply it to the study of plate tectonics. They will also be able describe climate, weather, ocean currents, soil movements and changes in the forces acting on the earth. Students will be asked questions individually throughout the lesson to see if they are able to make connections and appear to have an understanding of the sections concepts.

E.8.1 Using the science themes, explain and predict changes in
major features of land, water, and atmospheric systems E.8.2 Describe underlying structures of the earth that cause changes in the earth's surface E.8.3 Using the science themes during the process of investigation, describe climate, weather, ocean currents, soil movements and changes in the forces acting on the earth - For students to be introduced to the forces which lead to deformation of the Earths crust, and be able to apply it to the study of plate tectonics. - For students to be able to understand how the earths rock strata are influenced by several stress forms and the various types of rock formations are created. - For students to be respectful toward classmates, responsible of actions and assignments, and resourceful of the time we have together. - Ask students questions individually throughout the lesson to see if they are able to make connections and appear to have an understanding of the sections concepts. - Assign the Chapter 4, Section 4 Review questions #1-6 for homework to be turned in for a grade the following day. - Be aware of students who are working efficiently together on the assignment, directly address poor behavior or lack of effort toward assignment and correct by assigning individual work or switch groups. - Course textbook, paper, writing utensils, and desks -
Introduction: 10-15 minutes: Review and discuss the
concepts learned previously in the beginning of Section 4. - Reading and discussion of the remainder of Section 4: 25minutes. - Assign students Chapter 4, Section 4 Review Questions for homework to be turned in the following day for a grade, but allow them to work together in their groups with remaining class time. If unable to work appropriately in groups, individual work is expected: 5minutes before lunch and 10minutes after lunch. Introduction: - Review the ideas from the beginning of Section 4. Ask students literal questions on key points from the start of the section.
Student Accommodations
Developing the Lesson:
- Begin to read and discuss new material from Section 4. Encourage individual participation in reading parts of the section. - Ask students questions and review the parts of the Section 4 after reading each. Clarify any confusion or questions. Practice: - After finishing reading the section, assign students Chapter 4, Section 4 Review Questions for homework to be turned in the following day for a grade. - Give the students the opportunity to work together in their small groups on the assignment for the remaining class time. If unable to work effectively in groups, individual work is assigned. Closure: - If students complete assignment, tell them to quietly, individually review Chapter 4 for their upcoming assessment, and begin to look through the chapter review. - Once class is near end, thank students for cooperation and prepare them to switch to their afternoon classes. - Students are allowed to read Section 4 together in class. - Students are provided with class time to work on their homework assignment in small groups if behaving in responsible, appropriate manner. - If students do not seem to understand material, or appear to not be putting in sufficient effort toward their work, place them with students who have a better understanding of the material and allow them to work together.
