The Life

of
Amelia Earhart
Lexton Hardwick

Born in Atchison,
Kansas in 1897.
She loved to explore
the outdoors and was
considered a "tomboy."
She flew in an airplane
for the first time when
she was 23 years old
and knew she wanted
to fly her own plane at
that point.

"I want to do it because I

want to do it."
Amelia Earhart became famous
because she was the first woman
to fly solo across the Atlantic.
She was a celebrity and earned a
lot of money for her flight
through endorsements.
In July, 1937, in an attempt to fly
around the world, Earhart and
her co-pilot, Fred Noonan
disappeared and were never
seen again. They flew into bad
weather and were running low
on fuel.

5 Important Facts
Despite having to attend six different high schools, Earhart
was able to graduate on time.
Earhart was called "Lady Lindy" because her slim build and
facial features resembled that of Charles Lindbergh.
She refused to wear the typical flying gear and instead, chose
to wear a suit or dress, a close-fitting helmet, and didn't put
on her goggles until she taxied to the end of the field.
She developed a friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt, who
wanted to learn to fly.
The United States government spent $4 million dollars
looking for Earhart.

Questions to Ask
Why did you make your own roller
coaster?
What were some of the obstacles you
had to overcome as a woman in flying?
If you could pick three character traits
about yourself, what would they be and
why?

The most amazing thing that I have

learned about Amelia Earhart is that she
was not afraid to do anything. She inspired
so many other women to follow their
dreams and to do things that women have
never done before.
