My Plan A

Education Assistant

Job Description
Assisting children anywhere from

Elementary School to High


School.
Special education teachers are
trained to work with students who
need more individual attention
than they can get in a regular
classroom.
Working with a student who has
disabilities and helping them
accomplish tasks.

Working Conditions
Employed by public elementary, middle, and

secondary schools.
Work regular school hours, from about 8:00
am to 4:00 pm.
9 or 10-month school year, with 2 or 3 months
off during the summer.
Emotional and physical needs of the students
can also be very stressful.

Salary
Teachers can make

anywhere from about


$35,000 to $85,000 a year.
Teachers who are hired on
a full-time basis usually
receive benefits such as
dental and vision care, paid
vacation periods, and
contributions to retirement
savings plans.

Future Outlook
The employment rate is growing because of

earlier diagnoses, higher graduation


standards and lack of qualified teachers.
Movement in this field is very common.

In order to save enough money for my tuition, I have

been working at Tim Hortons since August of 2014


and will continue until December 2015
Currently I work part-time after school and on the
weekends, however when I graduate I plan on asking
for full-time hours until January of 2015 when I start
my College courses
In addition. I have applied for 12 COBBs bursaries
and hope to receive one or two which will assist me
financially

Why am I interested?
I would like to work in this field because my

brother has Autism so this is very close to my


heart. I like to help people who arent always
as capable as I am. Ive learned different ways
to help my brother cope over the years and I
really care about the students. I believe that I
will find this to be very rewarding.

an hour.
Certified interpreters
may earn from $30 to
$55 an hour.
Staff interpreters can
earn anywhere from
$25,000 a year to over
$60,000.

Future Outlook
As Deaf individuals increasingly access

education, career and community services,


and the demand for Sign Language
Interpreters is growing across the country.

Why am I Interested?
I am interested because I enjoyed ASL 11 last

year and I'm currently taking ASL 12 this year.


I loved learning a whole new language and I
like helping people. This would also relate to
my plan A which was special education
teacher because I like to assist people who
cant do as much as I can.

Why is This my backup


plan?
I already know sign language.
Many job opportunities.
Help people in need.
Get to work with children.
I am interested in learning more of this

language.
Good pay and Benefits.
Can work for school system.
