Population and Sample Frayer Models

This lesson will require you to fill out frayer models for vocabulary words that
are important to this unit. They will be done during the unit due and are due
the day of the test.
Frayer models will help us satisfy Common Core State Standards
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP and CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.4 for this unit.
These Common Core State Standards state that you have to understand key
terms that relate to the practice of using samples to represent populations.
There are five parts to Frayer models, the vocabulary word, the definition,
some facts and characteristics, examples, and non-examples. Below I will
explain what to do for each part and also a sample of a finished frayer model
In the middle you put the vocabulary word, symbol, or concept that you are
interested in. The four vocabulary words that are required for this unit have
already been filled out for you. The rest are for your convenience should you
want to define more.
For the definition section I will explicitly tell you the definition for the
vocabulary word. For any concepts, words, or symbols besides the ones
given to you, you can ask me after class where you can find them or you can
fill them in as you want.
In the facts/characteristic section you want to include information that is
important to understanding the vocabulary word.
The examples section is where you can include drawings or specific
examples of the vocabulary word.
Finally in the non-examples section is where you can include drawings or
specific non-examples of the vocabulary word.
The frayer model to the right is an example as to what I expect. Additionally
on the next page is a rubric further explaining my expectations.
