Title of Lesson: Discovering Community Helper Items

I. Objectives:
The children will identify what items they have felt in the box which is a
stethoscope, screwdriver, badge, and a piece of mail by self-exploration.

II. Materials:
Sensory box
Stethoscope
Piece of mail
Screw driver
Police officer badge
4 picture cards of community helpers (Doctor, Mail carrier, Police officer,
Construction worker)
III. Procedure:
A. Motivation
1. I will show the children 4 picture cards of community helpers.
2. I will ask the children to identify each community helper.
3. I will ask the child which helper they like the most.
B. Steps
1. I will show the children the 4 picture cards of community helpers.
2. When the children respond, I will ask them what each helper is and
which one they like the most.
3. I will ask the children what is something each community helper has
or wears.
4. I will show the children an item that each helper owns.

5. I will put the items in the box and ask the children to, one at a time,
to slowly reach inside the sensory box and guess which item they
feel.
6. I will have the children pull out the item they have to see if their
prediction was right.
7. I will ask each child what item they have picked out.
IV. Conclusion:
I will pull all the items out of the box and have the children count with me
how many items were in the box.
V. Transition:
I will ask each child to quiet sit on the purple line and once sitting nicely, I
will call them to get their name and pick and area.
VI. Follow-Up Activities/Learning Centers:
1. Place pictures of the community helpers with the name on the back in the
language center for children to explore and have an idea on how to spell and
how to pronounce that helper.
2. Place the helper items in the math center for the children to count.
3. Place community helper books in the reading area for children to look at.
VII. Evaluation/Assessment:

3. Did the children comprehend and verbally respond to the question of
what each community helper is?
4. Did the children successfully participate in the counting of all the items
