Scholarship for Practice the student must Assimilate current evidence into the practice

of nursing (FSU, 2015). This outcome is accomplished by continuing education programs and
integrating evidence based research into nursing practice. It provides a platform for change
resulting in improved outcomes for patients and the health care team. Nurses have relied on
several sources of knowledge to guide nursing practice. Throughout the nursing program, the
objective was met through critiquing a qualitative research and a quantitative research as well as
applying evidence-based practice to our day to day nursing care. The following work
demonstrates completion of this outcome. The Nursing 310 comprehensive work Real Age
Health Promotion Assessment is a specific example of integrating evidence based research and
a current model of behavioral change theory into nursing practice. In this exercise my personal
real age test findings were established and quantified; personal, foremost health risks scrutinized
in light of evidence based literature; wellness diagnostic strategies for reducing personal risk
were developed; specific risk reduction goals were characterized and set; and evidence backed
interventions were developed and prescribed toward achieving these goals. In addition, this
project required an evaluation of my own readiness and success potential in pursuing the
proposed change interventions in light of the Transtheoretical Change Model. This exercise,
conducted on myself, provided an evidence-based template that can be employed in the risk
assessment of the patient population that I serve, and the theoretical tools and behavioral change
theories that can be applied toward guiding patients through solutions for risk mitigation and
prevention.
The research paper Skin Side Effects in Modern Radiation Oncology Practice: Is There
a Way Forward is a comprehensive review of the state of the medical literature regarding the
management of one of the most commonly encountered problems in radiation oncology patients.

The writing is scholarly exposition on a striking paradox that exists in the practice of radiation
oncology. At odds with the methodic and systematic approach to the treatment of cancer, is the
management of skin reactions as anticipated sequelae of radiation therapy. Even though
unsubstantiated, untested, best guess therapies have evolved to address the range of skin
reactions typically encountered, the management of skin reactions continues to be ritualistic,
preference driven, inconsistent and non-evidentiary; in short, a far cry from the evidence based
standards of radiation therapy practice in general. This scholarly review authenticates the irony
for nursing practice and underscores the need for fully researched, evidence based tools to
standardize skin reaction treatment and achieve the outcomes consistent with radiation oncology
practice in general.
