Sharing the Road

As Uber changes the way city residents get from point A to B, business travelers are following suit.

UBER ON THE RISE NATIONWIDE


Travel and expense software company Certify has released a Q1 2015 report on how the sharing
economy is affecting business travel. Through user data from their cloud-based expense
management system, Certify has analyzed how the share of total paid car rides for business people
is shifting toward Uber.
For this analysis, the taxi category includes all taxi, limousine and airport shuttle rides. Uber
includes all uberX, uberXL, uberPLUS, Uber Taxi, UberBLACK, UberSUV and UberLUX rides.
While taxis still dominate the ground transportation sharing economy, ride-hailing services are
rapidly on the rise among business travelers:

Among eight major metropolitan areas, business


travelers in San Francisco and Dallas use Uber more
than taxis as of 2015s first quarter.
Regarding cost per ride, the average Uber ride
(including all Uber products) was $31.24 for the
quarter. The average taxi fare rings in at $35.40 (including taxis, limousines and airport shuttles).
