In my second draft of my proposal I added quotes and my opinion on my subject like I was told
to hold the attention of others. I got good feedback during our group discussion and I thought it
was beneficial to me and how I can improve my writing. Does the quotes I added flow well with
the paragraphs? Are there other ideas I can add to better mu Inquiry proposal paper?
I thought this proposal was difficult to write because I wasnt sure on how I wanted to introduce
my question. I was trying to think of an event that drives my question in the right direction
without confusion. Im concerned that I jumped around with information I researched and my
topic to much that it doesnt flow properly. I tried to add my own thoughts in my proposal as well
as others I found. But, I do believe that my paper ties well with the book we are reading in class
and serves as a good example in my paper to support my question. Is my paper hard to
understand/ flows well? Did I reach the goal of this assignment?

Chaotic Peace
As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a
fighter for truth and justice. Adolf Hitler, He was the center of Nazi Germany, World War II in
Europe, and the Holocaust. This is the setting of The Book Thief, which is a story of a young
girls life during the boom of World War II. She witnesses groups of Jews driven through her
street where she stays with her foster parents several times. The Holocaust was a specific event
and an extreme form of genocide to get rid of a certain ethnic, national, or racial group. Hitler
was aiming to create the perfect race, blonde hair and blue eyes, and get rid of the ones who were
said to be affecting the lives of the Germans harmfully. I joined the party because I was a
revolutionary, not because of any ideological nonsense.- Hermann Goering. Many people in

Nazi Germany did not support these ideas of the Nazis but did nothing. Why? Because they
feared for their lives.
Fear was the main cause for the Holocaust. Those who did not support these ideas of the
Nazis and acted were known as resisters, and resisters lost their lives. Death was the easy was
out; most of them were tortured and put into these horrible concentration camps too. The very
act of survival became an act of defiance. What if we all thought like those known as resisters.
What is all humanity feared less and found no reason to think of tragedy and wasted no time
trying to find protection against harm that is caused by humans? We would find no reason to
fight, no reason to argue, no reason to act in violence against one another.
This leads to the question people asks, why exactly do we fight for peace? Some people
think that its not peace we fight for, but in fact freedom. There are people in high power who try
to act against this and remove freedom from everyone else, like Hitler for example, which will
never bring peace. But, we can fight back to gain our freedom from those who seek to overpower
the world, but if everyone is fearful to act and fight back, we will lose the freedom that is
rightfully ours. So, they believe fighting is beneficial to the world to prevent over powering. In a
less dramatic sense, people fight in relationships where they are dating, friends, coworkers, etc.
They fight to gain this peace between them as well, to come to a conclusion but not because they
fear one another.
Although some think fighting is needed, others believe fighting for peace is in fact a
paradox. Is it right for one to kill someone else so they can live? Does this really bring peace or
does it just build tension against each other to later lead to revenge and an everlasting battle? The
assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the archduke of Austria-Hungary, caused alliances between
major powers that were to blame for the background into war. Major countries came together

forming agreements and their declarations produced a domino effect and lead to WWI. So why
actually were they fighting> to show power? Or maybe to gain revenge? Or did they fear one
another and reacted in war for protection? Hitler had known all the right things to say which
lead him to immense power. By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make
people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise. He knew how to alter
peoples view by the use of propaganda and brainedwash them by telling them what they thought
they wanted to hear. People feared his words and went along, no one wanted to be an outcast,
which increased his power. The more people that feared the more power he gained and more
fighting that raised.
So why in fact do we fight for peace is an ongoing discussion that keeps us thinking and
is why I would like to research on this inquiry question and learn more views on this topic. I
need to research the cause and effect situations that led to various wars and if fear played a role
in these situations as well which is a related question that occurs to me now while discussing on
violence. I didnt think much about this subject but while reading The Book Thief; it led my
group to ask this question that related to the main setting of the book. Since I didnt have a story
of my own to relate to, I thought the book served as a good example to discuss in my paper and
raise others thoughts as to why in face we act in violence. Will peace ever be achieved? In my
opinion no but thats if this world remains how it is to this day.
