Show students some pictures of Big Things in Alberta and explain what we will
be doing and why. Show students on the map where about their puzzle piece
falls.

Assessment of Prior Ask students what are some big things in Alberta that they know about? Why do

Transition to Body
Pull names from the jar and give each student a section of the puzzle; 9a and 9b
are to be given to the same student. Tell students these puzzle pieces will be
put together outside the classroom on the bulletin board for everyone to see.
They need to do their best work.

Learning Activity #1
Get the students to log onto computers and type into Google "big things in
Alberta" from here the students need to find their city/town and find the needed
information to answer the questions given. These answers are to be written on
the back side (side with the name of city/town) of the puzzle piece in the
students neatest writing. Tell the students to take their time.

Formative: Student is to show the teacher the found information; it is to be

Learning Activity #2
Student is to draw the "big thing" on the front side of the puzzle piece. It is to be
neatly drawn, and colored. If a student finishes early, give them the extra puzzle
piece to work on.
