Robert J.

Crousse
Teacher ~ Electrician ~ Electronics Technologist
For Robert, teaching is about the little things. It's taking time to get to know your
students. It's showing them that it's ok to fail. It's helping them back up. It's being there for the
student. It's providing a safe place to be. It's believing that every person has the ability to learn.
It's including them on this journey we call life. It's giving them opportunities to harness their
potential and figure out where they fit into the local, national, and global community.
Students have become more than just people sitting in chairs at desks and listening to
the instructor at the front of the room all day. They have transformed into dynamic and diverse
people who need someone to help guide them in discovering what they have inside them to
make them someone of value. Who will guide these people? Robert will. He has recognized the
strengths in people and encouraged them to take a leap of faith into the "deep end". That faith
being in themselves to literally jump into the deep end or to pursue being a teacher.
Robert Crousse has been teaching infants, toddlers, children, teens, and adults in a
variety of venues such as, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, summer camps, lakes,
classrooms, in home, and churches, over the last twenty years. His continuing role as a teacher
finds him pursuing a Bachelor of Technical Education Degree and volunteering at the Moncton
Wesleyan Mothers' Club. Not only does Robert want to harness the power of electricity, but he
wants to help each student in harnessing the power and potential of each student he encounters
on his journey.
Robert's journey to becoming a professional teacher has taken him down many paths.
He started out small as a leader and story teller during a Missions Trip in 1995. During that week
long adventure, he realized that he needed to be a teacher. To him, it didn't matter what he
taught, but he saw how he could make a difference in children's lives. Robert pursued becoming
a lifeguard and it only took him about eight months to do it. He worked hard and passed the
Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and NLS courses to be a certified lifeguard.
Being observant, writing lesson plans, managing time and resources, working with
people of various ages, focusing, problem solving, and relating to people are all skills Robert
learned to do as a lifeguard. These skills have helped him acquire jobs as a swimming instructor
at the YMCA in Fredericton. He has used these skills to help him build a solid foundation for
teaching.
Opportunities for teaching have always found Robert. The supervisors at his jobs would
place new recruits with him to show them how to run the cash register, wire the washrooms on
the passenger cars for VIA, or how to commission the HVAC system on the trains. They would
call on Robert because he was able to break down processes into smaller pieces that are easier

to work with, he was knowledgeable, he was organized, and created a positive learning
environment.
Robert is always taking in new knowledge and skills. He dabbled in electrical
engineering and science at UNB. He graduated from the Electronics Engineering Technology
and Electrical courses at NBCC Moncton. In recognition of his academic excellence, leadership,
and active involvement in the college and community, Robert was awarded the Principle's Award
in 2009 during the Electrical course at NBCC Moncton. As he continues to study at Crandall,
Robert is learning more than he could imagine. From the components of balanced literacy to
classroom management to diverse and multicultural education, Robert is being stretched and
prepared in every way for effective teaching.
