EE341: Microelectronic Design

Assignment #01
Due Friday (5PM) Feb 27, 2015
Question#01: Find

the output voltage Vout in terms of V1, V2 and known resistances for the

following circuit.

Question#02: The following diagram

shows a differential amplifier.

(a) Derive an expression for the output Voltage V0 in terms of R1, R2, R3, R4, V1,V2.
(b) Now show that if R4 = , above expression can be written as a combination of inverting
and non-inverting amplifier.
(c) What should be the values of R1 and R4 so that this differential amplifier becomes a
follower?
(d) One of the advantages of a differential amplifier is that it can be used to suppress the
common mode signal. Assume that there is some noise signal () being added to both
inputs. Show that the output remains unaffected in the presence of the noise signal.
(e) Now show that this differential amplifier can be used as a level shifter (to change the DC
level of the signal e.g., removal of DC component as well as amplifying it) by
considering either of the inputs as a constant voltage reference Vref.
Question#03:
(a) Draw the output voltage waveform for sinusoidally varying input signal.

(b) Draw the output voltage Vout if input voltage Vin varies between +/- 100mV . Also comment on the
operation of this circuit. Assume the diode to be ideal.

Question#04: Determine the voltage gain and I/O impedances of the circuits as shown in the
Fig. below. Assume VA = .

Question#05: Calculate the voltage gain and I/O impedances of the CB stage as shown in the
Fig. below. Assume VA < . NOTE: Draw small signal model.
