Step I: Choose a topic and get it approved. Remember, if you do not get your
topic approved, you will not receive credit on your final paper!
Step II: Research find sources through online databases and in print. Unless
you have express permission from Miss K., you may not use any internet
source that is not .edu, .gov, or .org. That permission will be granted on a caseby-case basis. You will have only ONE class in the library - April 10th.
Step III: Write the paper.
Basic Requirements
Purpose the purpose of the paper is to show what you have learned about
both persuasive and research writing. Your goal is to both educate the reader
about your topic and to persuade the reader to your point of view. Remember
that you must incorporate elements from both types of writing (see rubric for
more details).
Format
Introduction & thesis (min. 6 sentences for each paragraph)
At LEAST 1 body paragraph explaining and educating the reader on
generalities of the topic (basic terms, general information, etc.)
3 body paragraphs discussing issues surrounding your topic (one issues
per paragraph at this point, you should be sticking to research style)
1 paragraph taking a stance on your topic convince the reader of your
point of view (persuasive style)
1 paragraph counter argument of your topic (about 3 sentences
discussing the counter POV, then no less than 3 disproving the counter
argument)
Conclusion
Works Cited
Just as with the research paper, you must copy and highlight the
sections of your sources used in your paper. They must be turned in with the
rest of the paper. If copied sources are not included, plagiarism will be
assumed, and zero points will be awarded.
Finally, the paper must be turned in inside of a brad folder. Papers not
turned in inside of a brad folder will not be accepted for credit.
