Beatitudes Essay
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was
dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here
today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe youyou of
little faith? So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or
What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about
tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34-38 is saying that in order to reach true happiness, we do not need
to worry about having or not having. It is saying that it is just important not to covet. If
we covet, we miss the opportunities to love and serve those in need. In other words, it
is important not to be attached to material things here on Earth. We should just focus
on true happiness, which comes from serving those greater than ourselves, that is, the
Kingdom of God.
So on a scale from 1-10, I am about a seven. I am sure no one is a ten yet, and I
will be the first to admit I definitely need help. I need all the help I can get. So the

Beatitudes are inspirational to me. The two Beatitudes that appeal me the most are
Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven and
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. The two Beatitudes I find most
confusing are Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God and
Blessed are the meek, for the shall obtain the earth. I do not understand how
peacemakers shall be called sons of God and how the meek shall obtain the earth. The
two Beatitudes I am personally strong in are Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
for justice, for they shall be satisfied and Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall
see God.
Finally, the two Beatitudes that I have the most trouble with would be Blessed
are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted and Blessed are those suffer
persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. There are times when
I feel that the world is over. Nothing can comfort me at all. I just have to remember that
God is there always, and he is always comforting me, even if I do not think so. For the
final beatitude, I have a hard time standing up for God and my religion. I should be
willing to die for Jesus, as he did for us. I am sure he did not want to, especially during
those last painful moments, but he did for us. No matter what happens, even if I am
deemed uncool, I should still stand up for what is right.
