Instant Activity: Hot Potato

For our first activity, we will be
playing hot potato with music
using a football. Students will
be placed in 4 groups of 5 with
an ample amount of space
between each group. When the
music stops, the person with the
ball has to run throw the cones
as if it was the end zone. The
individual can make a victory
dance. Does anyone have any
questions?

Instant Activity

This activity addresses

standards II and 2 due to
the fact that this activity
allows the students to
demonstrate their
knowledge to movement
and their ability to
perform different
movements when fleeing
and changing direction

at random to
provide
diversity.

Purpose:
The purpose of this drill is to
reinforce the COTS that were
taught earlier in the school
year.We will be assessing each
one of you on catching and
throwing the football to see if
you have made any progress
over the past few weeks.
On the teacher's signal, you will
move to your assigned areas
with your partner.

1 min

Transition:
Students will remain seated
until they are given a partner
and told to go to colored poly
spot. When they get there they
will line up on the back poly
spot and wait for further
instructions

The goal of the transition

is to have students placed
in the assigned areas in a
timely manner.

Lesson Core - Task 1: Pass with partner

In this activity, the student will

be in pairs practicing how to
throw and catch a football with
the proper COTS

Diagram Task
1

This activity allows the

student to practice and
demonstrate their
competence at
performing and applying
this new movement and
concept to activity which
addresses standards I
and II.

Demonstration Plan:
I will perform a demonstration
of the cues of the skill, and then
will ask a student to perform a
demonstration in front of the
class with the students
Questions to Check
Understanding
What is something to remember
when catching a ball?
-When ball in high fingers to the

Questions to Check
Understanding
When can a person take a step

-After 5 complete passes
If the ball is thrown do I stay in

catch the ball

Common Errors Task 2:

1. Not stepping with nondominant foot
2.Not holding the ball
with the laces.
3. Not making an L
(bringing their hand
behind their heads).

Adaptations
If a group is struggling have
them move closer together and
practice the proper cues. If it is
to easy extend the distance
where it is challenging enough
to make a successful throw or
catch

1 min

Transition:
Students will freeze at the sound
of the teachers signal (whistle).
All equipment will be place on
the ground and their hands will
be placed on top of their heads.
They will give the teacher their
undivided attention listening to
further instructions.

The goal of this

transition will be for the
teacher to be able to
inform the students of the
extension task with no
interruption and in a
timely manner.

Transition:
On the teacher's signal
(whistle), students will freeze.
Teacher: On my signal I want
those with a yellow jersey on to
pick up all the poly spots and
place them on the bench next to
the white box and have a seat
on the white base line. I want
all of those wearing a blue
jersey to place all of the
footballs into the yellow and
black equipment bag and have a
seat on the white base line as
well. Ready (whistle blows).

transition is to have the
students follow
directions work together,
and be seated in a timely
manner waiting for
further instructions.

them!

Diagram The
Closure

The goal of the closure is

to assess the students on
the skills that they have
covered during the
activities and to inform
them about what to
expect during their next
lesson.
