Classroom Organization and Management Plan

As an educator it is the teachers responsibility to motivate, educate, guide and instruct.
A good classroom management plan is important for building a community of learners. Students
must be provided with an environment that is suitable for students to engage in activities and
class discussions. Student interactions in the classroom must be accommodating for individual
students, partners, small groups or whole class activities. It is especially important to have an
effective classroom management plan as well as complete control at all times, which is needed in
order for success. The procedures students learned will be used in jobs and real life situations
that they will face in the future.
Classroom Philosophy
When it comes to education my personal philosophy is closely related to several concepts
related to the cognitive theory of motivation. I believe the classroom is the teachers
responsibility and the main purpose is to encourage learning and to keep students motivated in a
positive way. An educator should engorge and praise students on their tasks and achievements.
All students should be treated equally no matter the race, religion, or class they come from.
Students minds are like sponges in which they are always learning and absorbing new
information. As an educator I believe that teachers need to provide students with a variety of
different teaching techniques, whether lessons are individualized, partnered, small groups or
whole class. Educators need to encourage student success by providing multiple techniques and
manipulatives. In order to do so an educator needs to set achievable goals, that could be
attainable depending on the students needs. If goals are not met, then the teacher needs to
reflect on what went wrong and develop ideas in which the goal can be achieved. Sometimes

goals are unattainable and need to be adjusted or divided into multiple simple goals. Completing
simple goals can build moral and encourage completion of higher standards. The teacher and
students need to work together as a community and have a mutualistic relationship, where both
parties know what is advised and expected.
Rules and Expectations
Being respectful and showing respect are key concepts that should be expressed in all
classrooms, as well as having a community oriented classroom. Student should not fear the
teacher, but treat them as an active member of the classroom community. Students are expected
to preform specified tasks and be active participants in the classroom community. The educator
and the students need to work collaboratively as a community. Students should be able to openly
discuss with the teacher their educational needs in a classroom. By having this open relationship
the teacher can adjust and adapt a lesson to each and every student to the best of their abilities to
meet the students needs.
In order to be a community some rules must be established. The teacher can decide to set
specific rules or work together with the class and create a list of rules. Rules are most effective
when students are involved in establishing a set of classroom standards or rules. Also the rules
that are created must incorporate important school wide and district policies. Students are most
likely to remember school rules and policies when they have input in establishing them. Many
school policies are established to ensure that students will be safe, respectful, responsible, and
kind to themselves or others.
Students are expected to follow the rules at all times in the classroom. The classroom has
a flip card system in place for students who violate a rule. Each card pocket has the students

number on it, and in each pocket is four colored cards. The top card in the pocket is the white
card and implies that the student has not done anything wrong. But the first time that a rule is
broken the student will be given a verbal warning and be told to flip their card from white to
green. The green card informs to the student that they need to think carefully about what they
have done. The second time that a rule is broken the student will flip their card from green to
yellow. The teacher will then have a discussion with the student and the student will have to miss
five minutes of recess. The third time a rule is broken the student will have to flip their yellow
card to red. When this happens the teacher will call home and the student will miss all of their
recess. At the end of the day all of the students cards get flipped back to white and begin the
next day with a clean slate.
Flip Chart Card Key
White = Just Right
Green = Oops! Think Carefully
Yellow = Miss 5 Minutes of Recess
Red = Yikes! No Recess and a Call Home

Positive incentives can be earned throughout the year for individual students or for the
whole class. Individual students can earn positive incentives by earning a ticket by providing
exceptional behavior, providing kindness for another student, or receiving a complement from a
faculty member. Student can then cash in their tickets at any time and pick a prize from the prize
bin. Students prizes can range from pencils, stickers, bookmarks, having lunch with the teacher,
bring a stuffed friend to class, sitting on a yoga ball for a day or be able to sit at the teachers
desk for a day.

Positive incentives the whole class can earn are gems. The class can earn chips by having
an extremely good morning or afternoon, walking quietly in the hallway, having a faculty
member complement the class, or having excellent behavior for a substitute or guest teacher.
Depending on the achievement the class will receive a specific amount of gems. The class needs
to receive a total of 100 tickets in order for the whole class to receive a reward. Some of the
rewards that the students can receive include, a pajama day, movie day, extra recess one, ice
cream social or camp read. Students can only receive tickets or tokens and cannot be taken away
for any reason, unless it becomes a distraction.
Classroom procedures
Classroom procedures must be consistent at all time. Students will know that upon
entering the classroom they are expected to enter the classroom put away any coats, backpacks
and make a lunch choice. Then students are to pick up their morning assignment, sit in their
assigned seats, take out their assignment notebook and work on their assignment quietly. Each
morning the teacher will walk around and check the students assignment notebooks to ensure
that they are filled out and have a parent signature. At the end of each day the teacher and the
student will fill in the assignment notebooks together. Filling out assignment notebooks allows
students to reflect and review upon the days activities and write down any reminders. The
purpose of the assignment notebook is to inform students about assignments, become organized,
responsible, and communicate with parents. Student are to take their assignment notebooks
home every day and have a parent or guardian sign it. By having parents look over and sign the
students assignment notebook the parent can look through and see what their child is learning in
school, or write a note for the teacher.

At the beginning of each week the teacher will use a pocket chart to rotate students
through the classroom jobs. All of the students will have a chance to preform each of the specific
jobs at least once throughout the school year. The classroom jobs are a privilege to the students
and can be taken away if this privilege is abused. Students can only preform classroom jobs if
all assigned work is competed and the student has free time. The classroom jobs consist of:
Star Student- This student gets to fill in a poster about themselves and share it
with the class. The star student is also the first person to
line up

and pack up to leave at the end of the day.

Messengers - Two Students will be in charge of taking attendance or notes to and
from the office.
Paper People - Four students will be in charge of passing out assignments and
classwork to their assigned table groups.
Mail Box People - Two students will be in charge of placing any checked work or
school notes in each students mailbox to take home at days
end.
Lunch Crate Helpers - Two students will be in charge of pulling the lunch crate
wagon to lunch and responsible for retrieving it from the
lunchroom at the end of the day.
Door Helpers- One student is responsible for holding the door open for everyone,
making sure all the students are out of the classroom, and
closing
the door behind them.
Book Helpers- Two students are in charge of the class library by making sure that
the class bookshelves are neat and tidy.
Calendar Person One student is in charge of changing the date on the board,
reporting the class jobs at the beginning of the week and
reporting

the weather for the day.

Green Guru Two students are in charge of taking the class recycle bin to the
school recycle center and sort out the paper plastic and
cardboard.
Super Sub One student is responsible for taking over any absent students job
responsibilities.
Parent Communication
Parents or guardians are important for a students learning. The teacher will provide
various opportunities for parents or guardians to be involved in their students education. The
teacher will send a weekly newsletter home every Friday to inform parents or guardians about
upcoming and current event occurring in the classroom. The teacher will also provide open
opportunities for parents or guardians to come in to the classroom and participate in activities,
holiday parties, career information or hobbies related to lessons. At the beginning of the year the
teacher will send out a survey or questionnaire to see if parents or guardians would like to
participate in the classroom.
Classroom Arrangement
When students enter the door they will experience a welcome and colorful classroom.
Student should immediately have a warm and comfortable feeling atmosphere. There will be
multiple posters and signs displaying school related information and students work all over the
room. Many of the posters will be used as visual aids and references throughout the school year.
Some examples include the alphabet in type and cursive, a word wall with sight words,
classroom rules, maps, and punctuation skills.
Attached is a classroom diagram, where there are groups of 5 desks placed together.
Each group is a small community that needs to work together and keep clean. Desks are set up

in this manner to encourage group work and discussions. In the diagram there is enough open
room for student to walk around and explore. Student will not be subjected to sitting in desks all
day. Student need to have room to stretch and move around and an open carpet area allows
students to do that. There are two student tables and a kidney table in the back of the classroom,
where pairs or groups can meet and work together.
The classroom will include technology that will enhance the learning process. In the
middle of the classroom will either be a projector or an overhead projector. In the wall where the
diagram says TV will be a screen, white board or smart board. The teacher can use these
technologies to show students presentations, video clips, or educational games to enhance
student interests in learning. Students will have iPads that they can take home or used in the
classroom. Also in the back of the room will be some computers for the students to look up
information or play educational games in their free time.
In the back of the classroom behind the kidney table the wall will be covered by multiple
bulletin boards. The wall behind the teachers desk will have a row of windows. The teacher
will open the windows on nice days to let the fresh air circulate and keep the blinds open to let in
natural light. The wall across from the windows will be aligned with the students backpack
hooks, mail boxes and storage closets. The students will use the backpack hooks to hang up all
of their coats, backpacks and lunch boxes. The storage closets will house all of the materials
necessary throughout the school year and is easily accessible.
The teachers desk will be placed in the corner of the room to allow the teacher visibility
to all of the students and the classroom door. On the teachers desk will be two baskets, one for
the student to turn in assignments and another to hold any extra handouts. The classroom library
is in the back corner of the classroom and consist of chapter books, folk tales, poetry, math,

science, and seasonal books. Students are welcome to take home and borrow any of the books in
the classroom library. The students can also use the reading area to sit on comfy chairs or listen
to a book on tape.
The classroom is very open and has a lot of space to move around. The teacher will use
the classroom to the best of their abilities for efficient learning. Most of the teachers lessons
will be taught using the front of the classroom, because this area is the focal point where most of
the student are facing and looking. The front of the room is where the teacher can stand and the
students knows to give the teacher their full attention. A classroom that is set up in a proper
manor will allow for student to become efficient, furthering their education for future success.
