Mark 2:1-12: Healing of the Paralytic Man.

1-The four men that was carrying the paralytic men what was the reason that
they climbed to the roof.
The word states in Mark 2:2. so many people gathered around the house that there was
no longer any room, not even in front of the door. Mark 2:4 They could not get near
Jesus because of the crowd, so they stripped the roof over the place where he was, made
an opening, and lowered the stretcher with the paralytic lying on it. These men showed
the same determination as the women with the issue of bloodthey fought the press.
2- When Jesus saw their faith: was it the faith of
A- The four men alone?
B- The paralytic man?
C- All of them collectively?
It was the faith of the four men that drove Jesus to say what he said in Mark 2:5 Seeing
their faith . It was apparent from the efforts of the four men to get the paralytic man
to Jesus, they had faith that something was going to happen. The paralytic man
symbolizes the man who is powerless and incapable of determining where he will go and
what he will do. Others lead him around and he has no control of his life. He is probably
told that he is a product of his parents, society and past situations.
3- Was sin the reason why the man was paralyzed?
Yes. This miracle happens during the time when so many like Peter, John, Levi and
others, according to Mark, came and followed Jesus without even a question. This man
was unable because of his condition/state. Like the paralyzed man, many of us are
paralyzed from doing anything because of our perceived past or sins. This highlights that
clearing the past or forgiving our sin is the first step in moving forward.
4- Why did Jesus did not just say pick-up your bed and walk?
Jesus wanted all within his hearing to know why the man was paralyzed. He also wanted
the scribes and Pharisee to know that he was there to address sin. The bottom line
message was to state that the past (sin) is over so forgive yourself and move on. Jesus
basically said the same thing with pick-up your bed and walk in other words, the past
is over so get your lazy butt up and do for yourself.
In saying your sins are forgiven, Jesus redefined the authority by which sin was
addressed. Before Jesus came it was the priests - ..the priest will make atonement for
them for any of these sins they have committed, and they will be forgiven - Lev 5:13.
Interestingly, of all those Jesus cured according to Mark, this paralytic was the only one
Jesus infers sin as a cause.
