Rather than creating rules, (the) students (will) engage in conversation about the type of
community they wish their classroom to be (Hardin, 2008, p. 150).
I believe that classroom management is the key to a good classroom. Starting out from
day one, letting the students know who is in control when, where, and why. As their teacher, I
expect control of my classroom yet know that respect is earned and not demanded. Immediate
establishment of rules and regulations followed by day after day repetition, will be the key to
my successful classroom.
Classroom rules are one thing, curriculum is another. I expect for my students to know
right when they walk in, what they will be learning. The learning target for the day should not be
hidden, it should be written in plain sight for all to see. I will build lesson based upon the star
GLCEs and the Common Common Core Standards. To make lessons engage learners, I will
use homemade videos, power points, pictures, community elders, and hands on manipulative.
With all of these powerful tools, I expect for my students to be engaged 100% of the time. If
my students are not, I will reassess my curriculum and allow for a more actively engaged
lesson that will keep my learners attention.
Classroom rules should be simple but be clear and posted for all to see in the
classroom. I have a few of my own rules that I will engage but feel that my students should play
an active role in their classroom. On the first day, we will together collectively go over the rules
so that we can tweak and change them per students that year. My two rules that will always be
a must in the classroom are RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY. Everything in the classroom will
extend from these to rules. If I require my students to work together, I should give them the
tools they need to work together. I will provide my students with many Kagan Cooperative
Learning Structures that they can use throughout our lessons.
I know personally all to well that none of my students will be perfect. My expectations
are high and I know that there will be times when all students will fall out of the bar that I have
set for them. In the event this may happen, my discipline policy will take eect. I am aware also
that many students will come to school with problems in their home life and all sorts of dierent
backgrounds. That is why it is important to me to take the time and talk to my students. If a
student is struggling with something, they know from day one, I am there for them to be a
listening ear. With discipline come great amounts of time spent redirecting and talking to the
students on their level.
I believe all students have the right and the capability of learning. My classroom will be

Autobiography:
If know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but
have not love, I am nothing.
My name is Tiany Smith. I am 28 years old and I live in Traverse City, MI. In my spare
time, I love to be outdoors, running, biking, skiing, camping, fishing, hunting, and rollerblading.
I enjoy indoor activities as well, such as, organizing, drinking coee, game nights with friends,
making good food, and watching a clinching movie.
I have two twin siblings that are 13 and an older brother who is 30. I just became an
aunt of a little baby boy whom is one of the cutest babies in the world. My family is and always
will be very important to me as well as all of my friendships.
In the next few years, I want to have my own classroom and be a highly eective
teacher. I want to start working on my masters degree, and be running an after school science
program. I would like to own a home where I eventually want to foster/ adopt children into my
home. I have worked well over 15 years with children, whether I am nannying, teaching, or
helping raise my small brother and sister, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
I am Tiany Smith
