Laboratory Safety Course
Please respond to the following prompts:
1. Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional Development experience.
From the Flinn Scientific Laboratory Safety Course, I learned the importance of lab safety in
a middle school classroom, and how to implement that safety. I learned how to use various
equipment in my science classroom such as the safety shower and the eye washing station. I
also learned the importance of making sure that the science safety equipment worked on a
monthly basis by going through a check list.
2. Discuss how these key points connect to your content area.
This PDU directly correlates with my content area. I love hands on labs, because I think it
is a great way for students to learn science. Safety is number one in a science classroom. There
can be no horseplaying, because the slightest chemical spill could be a disaster. This PDU
certifies me in Flinn Scientific Safety, which is very important in a science classroom. I was also
unaware of this website until I was assigned to complete the certification. It is a great website to
get supplies, lesson plan ideas, and update knowledge on science related material.

3. Share how you might use this new information in your future classroom
There were many safety lessons on Flinn Scientific that were very engaging for students.
Also, they have a great safety contract. I would use this new information in my classroom to
keep myself and my students safe during labs. Ive learned how to handle broken glass, work
safety showers, eye wash station, and the importance of safety equipment in the classroom.
