Play dough is one of our most favorite activity in our classroom.

Almost everyday some point

children ask, Can we have play dough now? Usually I tell them that play dough is for afternoon
when we have free play. Our weekly plan and classroom routine is so full on that there is no time
for play dough before lunch time.
Musa loves playing with play dough, same as all other children. Musa doesnt ask for play dough
but whenever he notices play dough is on the table he would immediately join in the activity. I
observed Musa yesterday as well as today playing with the play dough. I have noticed that he
doesnt mind sharing play dough toys with other children. Today when he was using a star
shaped play dough cutter Bilal asked for it and Musa said, I will give it to you A minutes later
when he finished with it he gave it to Bilal. Then he started to make some ball shapes with his
hand and put those on a plate. I asked what he is making. He said, Chocolate. I asked, "How
many are there? Musa counted and told me Eight. that was correct. When I asked him to
show the biggest and the smallest one, he pointed with his finger, again correct. In all these
photos we can see how Musa had been engaged with the playdough.

Play dough is a special educational tool in preschool progarmme, where children can settle in,
while observing what else is happening around the classroom. Dough provides a sensory
experience that extends imagination and creativity, introduces real life math skills eg. weighting,
quantity etc. Children also develop vocabulary and social skills.

Learning happening here

Miusa is developing hand- eye co-ordination, improving social skills e.g. sharing and
communicating with other children, increasing concentration, as well as developing pre math
skills i.e. figuring out biggest and smallest and counting, most of all Musa enjoying something he
likes to do.
