Scientist in the podiumScientist: The science community has discovered a breakthrough in the study of
human emotions and human nature. Concerning the involvement in nature shows a
positive correlation with the reduction of stress within humans along with up lifted
mood and increased endorphins.
Skeptic: Can we discuss more of the evidence found concerning the topic and how
that evidence was recovered?
Scientist: Our study was actually conducted with college students who labeled
themselves as stressed or under emotional anxiety; we had the subjects take an
initial test, recording their emotional state, along with an interview with a
phycologist prior to the experiment. Half of the group was told to remain on campus
and live their daily lives for a weekend and the other was taken on a camping trip in
mountains. Upon their return they met with the phycologist again and took the test
to show that the ones that had gone camping had a significant change in mood and
emotional behavior.
Nature Supporter: This study obviously shows and confirms the idea that nature
generally improves a persons emotions. Not only were the students evaluated by a
test but also by a phycologist proving their emotional improvement.
Skeptic: Where the effects of possibly the remaining college students abusing illegal
substances or even alcohol taken into account and noted for the study?
Scientist: We did not record the ingestion or dietary habits of the groups during the
period of the trial, so in effect the use of those sorts of substances was not recorded
in our study.
Skeptic: Could the effects of the subjects possibly consuming these substances
negatively influence the subjects in a way to effect the recordings?
Scientist: It is plausible but nonetheless the findings of the studies show a positive
effect of nature on the subjects in respect to the control group.
Nature supporter: The use of substances should not influence the findings, and the
hard evidence still does prove that nature positively effects the emotions of the
subjects presented.
