Lesson Details The unit the students are currently working on is
vocabulary. This involves practice, studying, understanding, and then
testing on the words.

This lesson will only take one class period. This is what should happen during
the period:

Students will come into class and sit in their assigned seats and the teacher will take attendance
Students will get out their Unit 5 vocabulary lists and review them while the teacher brings up the Kahoot
website
Students will log on to their computers or get an ipad and log on
The teacher will then show students where to click on the website to create a new account
The students will all create Kahoot accounts and log in
The teacher will then start the Kahoot quiz and the students will answer the questions as they appear on the
screen
After the quiz is over, students will log out and put the ipads back, and they will clear off their desks and get
a pencil ready for their vocabulary test
The teacher will pass out the vocabulary tests and the students will start working on them
Once the students are done, they will take their test up to the teachers desk and turn it in, and the teacher
will then give them a list of the next unit, Unit 6 vocabulary words
Students will study the new list of words quietly while their fellow classmates finish the test
When everyone is done, the teacher will go over the new list of words with the class as a whole, asking
students what they think the words mean and if they can use them in a sentence
After they have reviewed and the students told what they thought the words mean, the teacher will then go
over the list of word and tell the students the actual definitions, and the students can write them down as the
teacher says them
The students will be assigned their homework which is to review and study the vocabulary words and look
up the definitions to any of the ones they didnt get written down
If there is time, students will have time to read a book of their choice off of the classroom book shelf, or they
may quietly study their vocabulary words.

Enduring Understandings
Students will know all fifteen words from Unit 5 and they will be able to define all of the words and use them
in a sentence correctly. They will also be able to define and use in a sentence properly all of the vocabulary
words from the previous lessons, Units 1-4. They will also have listening skills when the teacher reviews
aloud with the class as a whole, and patience when they need to raise their hand and wait to be called on.
They will also be able to actively use an internet website named Kahoot and they will have an account on this
website.

UBD Stage II: Determine Acceptable Evidence


Assessment Tasks
Formal: Students will take a written graded exam on the Unit 5 vocabulary words
Informal: Review Unit 6 vocabulary words aloud with the class, pick a couple words from the
Unit and ask the class what they think the words definition might be. Also challenge them to use
the Unit 6 words in a sentence. Go over the correct definitions for all of the words on the Unit 6
vocabulary list with the class as a whole.
Formative: The students will take an online Kahoot quiz before the Unit 5 exam to test their
knowledge and get a little extra review in before the test

UBD Stage III: Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction


Materials and Resources
1) Pencil
2) Computers or Ipads with the Kahoot application downloaded on them
3) Vocabulary list with Unit 5 words on it
4) Overhead projector connected to teachers computer
5) Books off of bookshelf in the classroom
6)The vocabulary tests
7) Unit 6 vocabulary handout

Procedures and Content


1) Attendance will be taken- 2 minutes
Teacher: will take the attendance
Students: will sit in their assigned seat and review their vocabulary words while the teacher takes
attendance
2) Kahoot website will be used to review the Unit 5 vocabulary words- 3 minutes
Teacher: bring up the Kahoot website on their computer and instruct the students to make a new account
and show them how on the overhead projector
Students: log on to their computers or get in ipad off of the ipad cart, proceed to log on to the Kahoot
website and create a new account
3)Do Kahoot quiz as a class - 10 minutes
Teacher: then bring up the already created Kahoot quiz and go through the quiz with the students
Students: follow along with the teacher and answer the quiz questions as they appear on the screen
4)Pass out the test - 4 minutes
Teacher: pass out the test to each student
Students: log off their computers, return the ipads to the cart, clear off their desks and get a pencil ready to
take the test as the teacher passes them out
5)Take the test- 10 minutes
Teacher: monitor the students while the take the test to assure no one is cheating, when the students are
done and turn in their tests, give them the next unit, Unit 6 list of vocabulary words
Students: take the test, when finished turn in on teachers desk and get the new list of vocabulary words then
return to seat and start reviewing the new list
6)Finish tests, review the new vocabulary list- 10 minutes
Teacher: continue monitoring until every student has turned their test in, then go over as a class the new
vocabulary words, as the students what they think the words mean, and if they can use them in a sentence,
for each and every vocabulary word, then go over the correct definitions with the students
Students: tell the teacher what they think the new words definitions are, try to use them in a sentence, then
as the teacher says the correct definitions write them down on the list

7)Assign the homework- 3 minutes


Teacher: assign the homework which is for the students to learn all the definitions to the new words and if
they didnt write them down then they need to look up the definitions for the words
Students: start using the dictionaries in class to look up any words they didnt write down, and then quietly
start to study the correct definitions at their desks
8)Study or Read- 8 minutes
Teacher: instruct students to either quietly study their vocabulary lists, or get a book of their choice off of the
bookshelf and quietly read it to themselves
Students: will either study quietly or read quietly

Homework
Students will look up the definitions to the new unit 6 vocabulary words and then study them and know and
understand their definition and be able to use them in a sentence properly.

If Time Activities
Students will quietly study their vocabulary words or they will quietly pick out a book from the classroom
bookshelf and read it quietly.
